  • Patent number: 4827165
Abstract: According to certain designs of a rotor for a synchronous generator having a rotating rectifier assembly carried by the rotor, the rotating rectifier assembly is journaled below a bearing. Exciter leads coupling an exciter to the rotating rectifier assembly must pass under the bearing, making installation and removal of the rotating rectifier assembly difficult. In order to overcome the foregoing problem, a rectifier assembly for a generating system is disclosed. The rectifier assembly facilitates installation and removal of the rectifier assembly from the rotor cavity and comprises a tubular housing having a peripheral surface and an outwardly opening groove disposed in the surface and dimensioned to substantially completely and slidably receive an exciter lead when the housing is moved into or out of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 4825531
Abstract: An oil-cooled generator (10) is provided having a housing (20) with a gas-filled interior and rotor (46,56) therein. A stator (44,58) associated with the rotor (46,56) is secured to a surrounding sleeve (70',70) by an interference fit and pins (72',72). A bolt (84',84) is secured in an opening (82',82) in the housing (20) to fix the sleeve (70',70) thereto, the housing opening (82',82) being open only to the housing interior. The housing (20) is provided with grooves (76) therein and a ring (78) is secured to the inner diameter of the housing (20) to secure those grooves (76) to define oil passages (74) therein.

  • Patent number: 4806814
Abstract: In a brushless synchronous generator having a three phase, WYE connected exciter armature providing current which is rectified by a half-wave rectifier before energizing a field of a main generator, a conductor is required to couple a neutral lead of the exciter armature to a negative input terminal of the main generator field. In order to overcome the foregoing problem, a rotary rectifier assembly for a brushless synchronous generator is disclosed. The rotary rectifier assembly comprises a housing, three diodes, three resistors, wherein the diodes and the resistors are interconnected to form a three phase half-wave rectifier bridge within the housing, and a neutral conductor coupled between the neutral output lead and the negative input lead and carried within the housing.

  • Patent number: 4712029
Abstract: A terminal assembly (10) for a gas-filled, oil-cooled generator (14). The generator housing (12) includes an annular opening (18) with an annular boss (20) projecting into the housing (12), and sprayed coolant oil around the housing boss (20). A terminal insulator (26) is supported ion the boss (20), and a conducting lead (34) extends through an opening (32) in the terminal insulator (26). O-rings (40,42) seal the insulator (26) with both the boss (20) and the conducting lead (34). The lead (34) is resistance brazed to the end turn (56) of the generator stator.
