The second electrical energy source powers a load to prevent the fuel cell from witnessing stoichiometric levels that may lead to reductions in fuel cell performance or health. The hybrid fuel cell system includes an electrical circuit that electrically initiates the electrical energy source to provide power to the load in response to detecting a potential stoichiometric disturbance for the fuel cell.

    Abstract: A motor control apparatus and method is disclosed for controlling a multiphase AC motor by controlling electrical quantities such as voltage or current applied to the stator of the motor. The apparatus includes a motor command unit for defining a reference signal indicative of a desired motor parameter such as torque, speed, or position, a DC voltage link, a controller, a line-side converter including active switches in a bridge configuration for controlling the bidirectional flow of electrical power between the DC voltage link and a source of AC power, and a motor-side converter including active switches in a bridge configuration for controlling stator electrical quantities by controlling the bidirectional flow of electrical power between the DC voltage link and the motor, where the motor-side converter includes control means responsive to the reference signal for controlling the active switches to produce stator electrical quantities that correspond to the reference signal.

    Abstract: A variable speed wind turbine is disclosed comprising a turbine rotor that drives an AC induction generator, a power converter that converts the generator output to fixed-frequency AC power, a generator controller, and an inverter controller. The generator controller uses field orientation to regulate either stator currents or voltages to control the torque reacted by the generator. The inverter controller regulates the output currents to supply multi-phase AC power having leading or lagging currents at an angle specified by a power factor control signal.

    Abstract: A shield device particularly useful in conjunction with a medicine containing vial or ampule to prevent medicine from spraying out of the vial as a hypodermic needle is extracted from the vial seal. The shield device includes a enclosure having a collapsable wall structure. One end of the shield device is formed with an opening for receiving the neck of the vial and sealing around the vial neck. The other end of the shield device from the vial neck receiving opening is formed with an aperture which is covered by a puncturable seal similar to the seal covering the opening into the vial neck. In use, the vial neck is inserted through the opening into the shield. Maintaining the shield device in the collapsed position with the shield seal in overlaying alignment with the vial seal, the needle of a hypodermic syringe is inserted through the shield seal and the vial seal, and into the vial for filling the vial with medicament or extracting medicament from the vial.
