  • Patent number: 5673644
Abstract: A tri-joint coupling for enabling the streaming and retrieving of a towed ray system having a single towcable and multiple towed array lines without disconnecting the lines from the towcable. The system is capable of being used on state-of-the-art inboard submarine handling systems. The tri-joint coupling is circular in cross-section at the single towcable end and elliptical in cross-section at the multiple towed array line end. The elliptical end of the coupling has three coupling inserts that are circular in cross-section and have electrical/optical connectors that connect individual electrical/optical conductors on the cable side to individual electrical/optical conductors on the multiple array side.

  • Patent number: 5539960
Abstract: A termination device and a method for terminating braided ropes or cables aramid fiber are described. The device includes a generally cylindrical coupling which is threaded at one longitudinal end and has an internal sleeve at the opposite longitudinal end thereof. The longitudinal end of the coupling surrounding the internal sleeve has an annular space for feeding aramid fibers therethrough and also has a smooth surface with curved end toward the threaded longitudinal end for flexion of the aramid fibers for bent over the smooth surface and has properly contoured second curved end away from the longitudinal end to prevent damage to the bent over aramid fibers.

  • Patent number: 5443027
Abstract: A lateral force device for displacing a towed underwater acoustic cable piding displacement in the horizontal and vertical directions having a spool and a rotationally mounted winged fuselage. The hollow spool is mounted on a cable with cable elements passing therethrough. The winged fuselage is made with the top half relatively positively buoyant and the bottom half relatively negatively buoyant. The winged fuselage is mounted about the hollow spool with clearance to allow rotation of the fuselage. The difference in buoyancy between the upper and lower fuselage maintains the device in the correct operating position. The wings are angled to provide lift in the desired direction as the fuselage is towed through the water.
