Patent number: 7670536Abstract: Disclosed is a lock of a molding system having a rod and a platen. The lock includes a lock member associated with the rod that is movable between a clamped position and a released position by a clamp assembly. A complementary lock member is associated with the platen. The lock member and the complementary lock member are cooperatively operable to move between a lockable condition and an unlockablecondition within a relatively lower flex zone of the platen. The relatively lower flex zone of the platen is a portion of the platen adjacent to the rod relative to a relatively higher flex zone of the platen also adjacent to the rod.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2007Date of Patent: March 2, 2010Assignee: Husky Injection Moding Systems Ltd.Inventors: Robert Dietrich Schad, Alex Teng

Patent number: 7611346Abstract: A clamp actuator of a molding system is provided. The clamp actuator includes a first actuator configured to be interactable with a rod; and a second actuator configured to be interactable with the first actuator. The first actuator is configured to apply a clamping force to the rod; and the second actuator is configured to apply a force opposing the clamping force to the first actuator. Responsive to actuating the first actuator, the rod is drivable between (i) a home position in which a clamping force is not applicable to the rod, and (ii) a force application position in which the clamping force is applicable to the rod. Responsive to a mold flash occurring which exceeds the clamping force, the rod is moveable into a mold flash position beyond the home position.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2007Date of Patent: November 3, 2009Assignee: Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd.Inventors: Robert Dietrich Schad, Alex Teng

Publication number: 20090000345Abstract: There is disclosed a system, method and apparatus for producing a molding system component. A method for manufacturing a molding system component having a tubular configuration, at least in part, the molding system component for use with a molding system, is provided. The method comprises disposing a metallic work piece heated to a re-moldable state within a female cavity; impacting the heated metallic work piece with a male mandrel to form the molding system component between the female cavity and the male mandrel, at least partially; cooling the so-formed molding system component.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Applicant: HUSKY INJECTION MOLDING SYSTEMS LTD.Inventor: Robert Dietrich SCHAD

Patent number: 7300271Abstract: Alignment bars are mounted to a core or cavity insert block and a portion of one end of the alignment bar projects above the plane of a molding face surface and engages with a corresponding respective mating alignment channel in the other of the core or cavity insert block when the blocks are moved into a closed operative position. A portion of the other end of the alignment bar projects below the plane of a mold base plate facing surface defining keys for insertion into pockets formed in the mold base plate of a mold base for precise fixed positioning of the insert block on the mold base plate. The other insert block is carried by a co-operating mold base and the position of the insert block is moved into alignment with the insert block mounted on the other mold base.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2005Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Philip Parmenter, Guido Drees, Robert Dietrich Schad

Patent number: 5910327Abstract: A sprue bar assembly for a melt transfer system for stack molds comprises a sprue bar and a sprue bar sleeve. When the stack mold is opened, the sprue bar slides inside the sprue bar sleeve which captures any leakage therefrom. When the mold is closed, the sprue bar sweeps captured leakage out of the sleeve to an area outside the mold. As the bushing at the end of the sprue bar can contact the nozzle at a point very close to the edge of the fixed platen, the resulting minimum length of the sprue bar is reduced, reducing pressure losses through the sprue bar and reducing the cost of the sprue bar. The sprue bar sleeve can be fabricated from an insulating material to enhance the thermal characteristics of the sprue bar assembly and a scraper can be provided on the sprue bar to improve removal of captured material from the sprue bar sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1997Date of Patent: June 8, 1999Assignee: Husky Injection Molding SystemsInventors: Robert Dietrich Schad, Zbig Romanski

Patent number: 4118168Abstract: A mold with two relatively movable portions, one of them having one or more shallow cavities for the production of substantially flat articles, is provided with lateral guide elements which, upon separation of the two mold portions by a distance exceeding but slightly the depth of these cavities, define with the separated mold portions a vertical channel through which the ejected articles descend with a predetermined orientation onto an underlying conveyor or other receiver therefore. The guide elements may be retractable into the mold portion on which they are supported, or partly receivable in the opposite mold portion when the mold is closed. Some of the guide elements could be extensions of ejectors serving to dislodge a molded article from its cavity.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1977Date of Patent: October 3, 1978Assignee: Husky Injection Molding Systems LimitedInventors: Herbert Rees, Robert Dietrich Schad
