  • Publication number: 20080096602
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and system for enabling efficient reduction of TFCs in the TFCS to achieve desired transmission, while remaining within desired power and data requirements. Upon the UE transmission power requirement exceeding the maximum or allowable transmission power the MAC shall be informed for subsequent TFC selection of all TFCs that currently exceed this limit. The UE will then chose the TFC with the next lower transmission power requirement and the sequence will continue until an acceptable TFC is determined. The present invention also enables the replacement of the TFCs in the TFCS and advanced determination of non-supported TFCS. The TFCs that require transmission power greater then the maximum or allowed UE transmission power shall be determined continuously in every TTI, not just in TTIs where the maximum power has been exceeded.

  • Publication number: 20080089518
Abstract: A secret stream of bits begins by receiving a public random stream contained in a wireless communication signal at a transmit/receive unit. The public random stream is sampled and specific bits are extracted according to a shared common secret. These extracted bits are used to create a longer secret stream. The shared common secret may be generated using JRNSO techniques, or provided to the transmit/receive units prior to the communication session. Alternatively, one of the transmit/receive unit is assumed to be more powerful than any potential eavesdropper. In this situation, the powerful transmit/receive unit may broadcast and store a public random stream. The weaker transmit/receive unit selects select random bits of the broadcast for creating a key. The weaker transmit/receive unit sends the powerful transmit/receive unit the selected bit numbers, and powerful transmit/receive unit uses the random numbers to produce the key created by the weaker transmit/receive unit.

  • Publication number: 20070115871
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling transmissions via an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) are disclosed. A scheduled power is calculated for scheduled data flows. A remaining transmit power is calculated for the E-DCH transmission. A rate request message is generated, wherein the scheduled power, remaining transmit power and rate request message are used to select transport format combinations (TFCs) and multiplex data scheduled for the E-DCH transmission. The remaining transmit power is calculated by subtracting from a maximum allowed power the power of a dedicated physical data channel (DPDCH), a dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH), a high speed dedicated physical control channel (HS-DPCCH), an enhanced uplink dedicated physical control channel (E-DPCCH) and a power margin.

  • Publication number: 20070086437
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling reception of multimedia broadcast/multicast services (MBMS) at a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) are disclosed. In order to control reception of an unwanted service of the MBMS, the WTRU is enabled or disabled for receiving MBMS in accordance with a user input. The unwanted service may be blocked at an application layer or at a lower layer. Either all services or a selected individual service may be blocked. The selection may be based on a type or priority of the content. The selection may be overridden for providing a certain service. To block the unwanted service, reception of an MBMS announcement message is disabled. Alternatively, an MBMS identity is prevented from being passed to a lower layer or is passed with a flag indicating that the unwanted service of the MBMS should not be processed.

Abstract: A block linear equalizer (BLE) using an approximate Cholesky decomposition is disclosed. The BLE includes channel estimators, a channel monitor unit, a noise power estimator, a parameter selection unit and an approximate Cholesky processor. The channel estimator generates a channel estimate vector from received samples. The channel monitor unit generates a first channel monitor signal for a truncated channel estimate vector and a second channel monitor signal. The noise power estimator estimates a noise power of the received samples. The parameter selection unit selects parameters for approximate Cholesky decomposition based on the first and second channel monitor signals. The approximate Cholesky processor performs block linear equalization on the received samples based on approximate Cholesky decomposition.

  • Publication number: 20070064662
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing power during discontinuous reception (DRX) mode are disclosed. A DRX mode is defined for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for reducing power consumption of the WTRU. During the DRX mode, the WTRU enters into a sleep state and periodically wakes up for processing paging blocks for detecting a paging indication for the WTRU and a corresponding paging message. If the WTRU is paged the WTRU terminates the DRX mode. If the WTRU is not paged, the WTRU reenters the sleep state. For power management during the DRX mode, a synchronization update period is defined. The synchronization update period is a period for performing automatic frequency correction and/or frame time correction.

  • Publication number: 20070036353
Abstract: The present invention relates to secret key generation and authentication methods that are based on joint randomness not shared by others (JRNSO), in which unique channel response between two communication terminals generates a secret key. Multiple network access points use a unique physical location of a receiving station to increase user data security. High data rate communication data is encrypted by generating a random key and a pseudo-random bit stream. A configurable interleaving is achieved by introduction of JRNSO bits to an encoder used for error-correction codes. Databases of user data are also protected by JRNSO-based key mechanisms. Additional random qualities are induced on the joint channel using MIMO eigen-beamforming, antenna array deflection, polarization selection, pattern deformation, and path selection by beamforming or time correlation. Gesturing induces randomness according to uniquely random patterns of a human user's arm movements inflected to the user device.

  • Publication number: 20060268884
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling transmissions of data via an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) are disclosed. A list of available transport format combinations (TFCs) is generated based on a plurality of dedicated channel medium access control (MAC-d) flows. An enhanced uplink medium access control (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) is generated using a TFC which is selected from the list of available TFCs. The MAC-e PDU is forwarded to a hybrid-automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) process unit for transmission. The list of available TFCs is continuously updated by eliminating and recovering TFCs based on remaining E-DCH power, an E-DCH transport format combination set (TFCS), a power offset of a highest priority MAC-d flow that has E-DCH data to transmit, and a gain factor for each TFC.

  • Publication number: 20060227886
Abstract: A receiver or an integrated circuit (IC) incorporated therein includes a fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based (or hybrid FFT-based) sliding window block level equalizer (BLE) for generating equalized samples. The BLE includes a noise power estimator, first and second channel estimators, an FFT-based chip level equalizer (CLEQ) and a channel monitor unit. The noise power estimator generates a noise power estimate based on two diverse sample data streams. The channel estimators generate respective channel estimates based on the sample data streams. The channel monitor unit generates a first channel monitor signal including truncated channel estimate vectors based on the channel estimates, and a second channel monitor signal which indicates an approximate rate of change of the truncated channel estimate vectors. The FFT-based CLEQ generates the equalized samples based on the noise power estimate, one-block samples of the first and second sample data streams, the channel estimates and the monitor signals.

  • Publication number: 20060146763
Abstract: Multi-user detection (MUD) performance is optimized to eliminate redundant use of power during processing. An overbuilt A-matrix, i.e., a system response matrix, is provided. The overbuilt A-matrix uses all possible codes, e.g., all codes identified in a candidate code list (CCL) provided by blind code detection (BCD). The overbuilt A-matrix is passed to the MUD which extracts only those rows or columns required for codes that have actually been received, thus eliminating the need to recompute whitening matched filter (WMF) outputs that do not correspond to the actually received code.

  • Publication number: 20060126568
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing chip level equalization (CLE) using joint processing to enhance performance and system throughput using a transmitter having a plurality of transmit antennas and a receiver having a plurality of receive antennas. A channel response matrix is formed between the transmit antennas and the receive antennas to generate a joint channel correlation matrix between the transmit antennas and the receive antennas using a block-FFT (B-FFT) decomposition of the channel response matrix. Estimates of transmitted chip sequences from each of the transmit antennas are generated using minimum mean square error (MMSE) and the joint channel correlation matrix are combined. The combined estimate of the transmitted chip sequences are despread to recover transmitted data.

  • Publication number: 20060072605
Abstract: The present invention achieves power savings by turning off all or some of the baseband processing for codes and timeslots that have not been transmitted due to full or partial DTX. With respect to partial DTX, the transmitted codes and associated timeslots and radio frames within the shortest TTI in the CCTrCH are determined from the received TFCI. Thereafter, the receiver is turned off for the unused codes as indicated by the received TFCI. With respect to full DTX, following TFCI reception, the receiver is turned off for all timeslots within the shortest TTI.
