  • Publication number: 20150283510
Abstract: A process for dewatering oil sand fluid fine tailings comprising clay and water in a deposit, comprising: providing an anode and a cathode spatially separated from one another; applying a voltage gradient to produce a current between the anode and the cathode sufficient to move the water in the tailings towards the cathode; and removing the water which accumulates at the cathode.
    Type: Application

    Publication date: October 8, 2015
    Inventors: GEOFF HALFERDAHL, ROBERT DONAHUE
  • Publication number: 20140116955
Abstract: A process for the disposal of oil sands tailings is provided, comprising: optionally diluting the tailings with sufficient water to yield a tailings feed having a solids content in the range of about 18 wt % to about 36 wt %; adding one or both of a coagulant and a flocculant to the tailings feed to form a centrifuge feed; centrifuging the centrifuge feed to produce a centrifuge cake having a solids content of at least about 50% and a centrate having a solids content of less than about 3 wt %; and introducing the centrifuge cake into an overburden containment structure comprised of oil sand overburden, said overburden containment structure comprising a least one trench for holding the centrifuge cake, or into a deep disposal site for additional dewatering of the centrifuge cake through self-weight consolidation and creep.

  • Publication number: 20080020443
Abstract: The mutation of the endA and recA genes in E. coli strain BL21 creates features that are very attractive for protein expression and cloning in a single prokaryotic system, including rapid cell growth, high transformation efficiency, rapid plasmid replication to high densities, and high plasmid stability. When specially prepared for competence, these strains are highly useful for both cloning and protein expression.

  • Patent number: 4425601
Abstract: An improved apparatus for illuminating a plurality of stairs when in use involves a transformer to provide a reduced A. C. voltage; at least one light in proximity to the stairs to illuminate the stairs when at least a portion of the reduced A. C. voltage is supplied to the light and an electrical circuit including the light is formed; a rectifier to convert the reduced A. C. voltage to a D. C. voltage; a plurality of pressure sensitive switches associated with the rectifier and the treads of the stairs; physical pressure on the tread or treads acting to close at least one of the switches; and a relay in association with the pressure sensitive switches and light, and adapted to form the electrical circuit including the light in response to the closing of at least one of the pressure sensitive switches.
