  • Patent number: 6938041
Abstract: A Database Development System is described that provides methodologies for creating a Java-based database control object (the “Java DataWindow”) for use in a Client/Server Database System. The methodology provided by the present invention maintains the DataWindow properties (e.g., SQL statement for data to retrieve, format specifications, and the like) at a server-side DataWindow component residing at an application server. A corresponding client-side DataWindow component, embedded for instance in a target HTML page, knows how to query the server-side DataWindow component for dynamically streaming the DataWindow's properties, so that they may be applied at run-time on the client side. After an end user has entered in the input desired, the changes are determined by the client-side DataWindow component and flushed back to the server-side DataWindow component at the application server. The server-side DataWindow component, in turn, can effect the changes to the back end database, as appropriate.

  • Patent number: 6887047
Abstract: A pinch mechanism, which can be used as part of a pump, includes a deformable tube (10) enclosed within a body (11) which has a first chamber (11a). The deformable tube (10) defines a flow passage. A second chamber (19) is coupled via passage (17) to the first chamber (11a). A piston (20) is located within the second chamber (19) and movable between first and second positions. Upon moving to the first position a pressure increase occurs in the first chamber (11a). Upon moving to the second position a negative pressure is created in the first chamber (11a). A vent means (25) is located at a point during movement of the piston (20) between the first and second positions which enables pressure equalisation within the second chamber (19) to occur.

  • Patent number: 6856850
Abstract: This invention pertains to processing continuous webs such as paper, film, composites, and the like, in dynamic continuous processing operations. More particularly, it relates to accumulating limited lengths of such continuous webs and to controlling tension in such continuous webs during the processing operation. Both tension control and limited accumulations are achieved in festoon systems by connecting corresponding movably mounted festoon rolls to an actuator, sensing parameters such as position, tension, velocity, and acceleration related to the web and the festoon, and providing active force commands, in response to the sensed variables, to cause translational movement, generally including a target acceleration, in the movably mounted festoon rolls to control tension in the web while providing limited accumulation of a length of the web. The festoon control system can be used to attenuate tension disturbances, in the alternative to create controlled tension disturbances.

  • Publication number: 20040219423
Abstract: The invention provides a metal-supported solid electrolyte electrochemical cell, multi cell reactor assemblies incorporating a plurality of such cells, and processes of forming the electrochemical cells. In one embodiment, the electrochemical cell includes a central electrolyte membrane, first and second perforated metallic layers adhered to each of the major surfaces of the central electrolyte membrane, and first and second outer, non-porous electrolyte layers formed above the metallic layers. In another embodiment, first and second inner, porous electrolyte layers are sandwiched on either side of the central membrane, between the first and second metallic layers. The electrochemical cell is thus generally formed from ceramic material as thin layers supported on non-porous, robust metallic layers, designed to behave as though made of metal. Preferably, the electrochemical cell includes metallurgically bonded electrical interconnects and/or gas seals.

  • Publication number: 20040112996
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method of comminuting/pulverizing polyurethane-containing materials to produce fine particles. The method of comminuting/pulverizing polyurethane-containing materials comprises first chopping the polyurethane-containing materials, thereby producing a polyurethane-containing flock. The polyurethane-containing flock is then processed to form a powder through a comminuting/pulverizing process wherein the comminuting/pulverizing process has at least two steps. Finally, a solid additive is added at any time during the comminuting/pulverizing process to prevent adherence of the polyurethane-containing materials powder during one of the at least two steps.

  • Patent number: 6714852
Abstract: An engine crankshaft torque observer (10) and method of operation. An engine combustion process (14) is modeled (26) to develop modeled pressure estimates of combustion chamber pressures in engine cylinders according to certain engine inputs, such as fuel (20), EGR (22), and timing (24), that influence combustion chamber pressures. Kinematics (16) relating reciprocal motion of pistons in the engine cylinders to an engine crankshaft and engine friction (18) relating running friction of the engine to engine crankshaft rotation are also modeled (28; 30). A processor processes the certain engine inputs through the combustion process model to develop modeled pressure estimates which are processed through the kinematics model to develop modeled positive torque contribution due to combustion processes and through the friction model to develop modeled torque loss due to running friction.
