  • Publication number: 20240027152
Abstract: An improved recoil reduction system comprises a forward body, a friction spring, a rear body, a bolt, and, optionally, a bumper. When in forward battery, the said friction spring is compressed to a preloaded operating point by the bolt. In embodiments, when a weapon equipped with the improved recoil reduction system is fired, the front body is impacted by the bolt carrier group of the weapon and the rear body moves aft and strikes the rear of the shoulder stock of the weapon, compressing the friction spring. During compression, the tapered mating surfaces of the friction spring generate friction and thereby dissipate the energy generated from firing the weapon in the form of heat, thus reducing the felt recoil of the weapon.

  • Patent number: 10377510
Abstract: Various enhanced rocket fairings and associated mechanisms are discussed herein for split fairings with two fairing halves. In some implementations, electrically-actuated base clamps are included to deploy the rocket fairing by applying a spring force between a corresponding fairing half and a payload adapter, which directs movement of the fairing halves upwards and away from the payload adapter until release of the fairing halves. In other implementations, electrically-actuated fairing mechanisms are included to hold together a first fairing half and a second fairing half, and separate the first fairing half from the second fairing half using a spring force. In further implementations, one fairing half includes a tab feature configured to overlap a second fairing half. The tab feature can deform inward under a pressure differential between an exterior and a payload envelope to reduce a gap between the two fairing halves.

  • Patent number: 8494760
Abstract: A Widefield Airspace Imaging and Navigation System to provide UASs with wide field airspace imaging and collision avoidance capabilities. An array of optical lenses are distributed throughout the aircraft to provide an unobstructed view in all directions around the aircraft. Each collection lens is coupled through an optical fiber to a camera that multiplexes the several images. A processing system is connected to the wide array imaging system, and it runs an image interpolation program for resolving a background image and for distinguishing objects that are not moving with the background. In addition, a navigation control program reads the image interpolation software and, upon detection of an approaching object, implements a rule-based avoidance maneuver by sending an appropriate signal to the existing UAS autopilot.
