  • Patent number: 10538263
Abstract: A lever assembly includes a lever that extends between a first lever end and a second lever end and a lever member. The lever member has a lever member first portion connected to the second lever end and a lever member second portion extending from the lever member first portion. The lever member second portion has an intermediate portion defining a predefined plastically deformable stress point that is arranged to facilitate movement of the lever member second portion relative to the lever member first portion.

  • Patent number: 10471981
Abstract: A buckling control assembly for a steering column energy absorption strap assembly is provided. The buckling control assembly includes an inner energy absorption strap operatively coupled to a steering column jacket. Also included is an outer energy absorption strap surrounding at least a portion of the inner energy absorption strap and operatively coupled to the steering column jacket. Further included is a strap constraining structure disposed on a constraint side of the outer energy absorption strap to inhibit buckling of the outer energy absorption strap in a first direction, the outer energy absorption strap having a free side unconstrained to accommodate buckling of the outer energy absorption strap.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 2017
Date of Patent: November 12, 2019
Assignee: Steering Solutions IP Holding Corporation

  • Publication number: 20070085317
Abstract: The invention provides a mounting assembly for a steering column of a vehicle and a method for mounting a steering column to a vehicle. The mounting assembly includes a steering column member having a first aperture extending along an aperture axis. The mounting assembly also includes a rigid member extending between first and second ends along the aperture axis in the first aperture. The mounting assembly also includes a resilient member extending along the aperture axis in the first aperture past at least one of the first and second ends of the rigid member.

  • Publication number: 20060157965
Abstract: The invention provides a snap-in capsule for releasibly connecting a steering column to a vehicle. The snap-in capsule includes a metal insert for reducing creep of the steering column with respect to the vehicle. The metal insert has top and bottom surfaces and a slot extending along an axis for receiving a bolt. The snap-in capsule also includes a plastic capsule body for providing a mechanical fuse between the metal insert and the steering column. The plastic capsule body has a first snap-fit portion being deformable to receive the metal insert and fix the plastic capsule body and the metal insert with respect to one another.
