Abstract: A method for assembling a piston on a rod, and resultant piston and rod assembly, uses one or more lock rings that are mechanically deformed radially inwardly into respective locking grooves in the rod, thereby axially locking the lock ring to the rod. The lock ring can function as an axial stop for the piston or can be formed integrally with the piston. The method of assembly minimize unwanted strains and stresses in the piston and rod, while providing a secure and durable joint between the piston and rod.

Abstract: A port mounted fluid control valve construction (18) is mounted to a pneumatic cylinder (10) through the first port (31) and second port (37) of the cylinder. The construction includes a removable valve body portion (22) which is detachable from a manifold portion (20). A tube (34) extends from the manifold portion to an adapter body (36). The manifold portion includes a first inlet (42) which extends to a first outlet (50) through a first passage (52). An ear (44) extends in the first passage. A spud fitting (100) which includes cutouts (110) which enables fluid to pass therethrough, is mounted in the first port of the cylinder. The spud fitting includes a threaded opening which accepts a fastener (102). The fastener extends through ear (44) and holds the manifold adjacent the cylinder. The adapter body includes first aperture (122) which is in fluid communication through the adapter body with the tube. A second spud fitting (100') is mounted in the second port of the cylinder.
