Abstract: A system and method for providing conference calling over an IP network includes establishing a conference calling platform capable of interacting with a gateway connected to the Internet. Conference call participants can directly access the conference calling platform via an analog telephone call carried over the PSTN. Conference call participants can also access the conference calling platform by placing a call that is routed over the Internet. In this instance the call would be removed from the Internet by the gateway, and then connected from the gateway to the conference calling platform. The gateway could send the call directly to the conference calling platform in a digital format, or the gateway could convert the call to an analog format, and then send the call to the conference calling platform via the PSTN. This allows participants to access a conference call via low cost International long distance calls that are carried over the Interent.
