Publication number: 20230359468Abstract: User engagement is detected and used to control operation of a computing device. User engagement is detected by a sensor such as a camera that identifies if a user's face is oriented towards a display device. If the user is not facing the display device, the sensor determines that the user is unengaged. The computing device is thus able to perform a power-saving operation, such as dimming the display device, when the user is unengaged. The computing device includes an API that abstracts sensor data into a user engagement signal indicating that the user is either engaged or unengaged. The OS and applications running on the computing device act on the user engagement signal provided by the API without communicating directly with the sensor. The user engagement signal may be provided as an input to a state machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2022Publication date: November 9, 2023Inventors: Ugan SIVAGNANENTHIRARAJAH, Sathyanarayanan KARIVARADASWAMY, Sanjeev Chandra REDDY, Sanjana Ramakrishnan SUNDER, Sayak CHATTERJEE, Sarah Anne BARNETTE, Mark LIN, Robert E. Publication number: 20140354310Abstract: Capacitive sensor testing techniques are described. In one or more implementations, a plurality of conductive pads of a test apparatus are caused to transition to a grounded state. The plurality of conductive pads is disposed proximal to one or more capacitive sensors of a device. An output is examined that describes a response of the one or more capacitive sensors of the device to the transition to the grounded state by the plurality of conductive pads to test operation of the one or more capacitive sensors of the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2013Publication date: December 4, 2014Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: David C. Patent number: 5711295Abstract: This is a device for resuscitation of asphyxiated or semi asphyxiated patients. It is used primarily by emergency rescue and ambulance personnel. It is designed to supplement equipment already in use and is not intended to replace other equipment. It comprises manually operable mechanical equipment to replace the use of a medic's hand, presently used to squeeze and release a plastic air bag (10) which in turn alternately forces air or oxygen into the lungs of the patient and releases carbon dioxide and other waste gases from the lungs of the patient. The resuscitation device holds the plastic bag between a stationary mechanical upper hand (36) and a vertically moveable mechanical lower hand (56). The vertical movement of the lower hand is sustained by a pivotable lever (70) which is manually operated by rescue personnel.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1996Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Inventor: Robert E.
