    Abstract: This invention relates to a process for polymerizing acrylic monomers and possibly non-acrylic co-monomers by means of polymerization-initiating agents of the formula:R--M (I)in which M represents a metal selected among the alkaline and alkaline-earth metals and R represents an alkyl radical, which may have a straight or branched chain and contains 2 to 6 carbon atoms, or an aryl radical.The polymerization or copolymerization is effected in the presence of an additive consisting of a salt of an alkaline or alkaline-earth metal and of a mineral acid, such as lithium chloride.
