  • Patent number: 9898611
Abstract: A method of transmitting high speed serial data with reduced levels of radiated emissions is disclosed. A transmitting device scrambles data utilizing a pseudo-random number sequence generator. Scrambling the data eliminates transmission of repeated data sequences. The transmitting device similarly scrambles idle pairs of data between data transmissions to eliminate an additional source of repeated data sequences. The scrambled and encoded data is transmitted to a receiving device. The receiving device also includes a pseudo-random number sequence generator. Synchronization of the two pseudo-random number sequence generators occurs by utilizing control characters of the data frame being transmitted. Each of the pseudo-random number sequence generators is configured to generate the same sequence of numbers and is initialized to start with a first number in the sequence of numbers corresponding to the first byte of data being transmitted or received.

  • Patent number: 8285090
Abstract: A serial optical data transmission system is provided. The serial optical data transmission system includes a displaceable optical pathway disposed adjacent to a slot configured to receive a first monitoring and/or control module. The optical pathway is biased towards a serial optical data bus position for transmission of optical data to or from at least one second monitoring and/or control module when the first monitoring and/or control module is removed from the slot. Further, the optical pathway is displaced from the serial optical data bus position when the first monitoring and/or control module is in the slot.

  • Patent number: 6232557
Abstract: A cable and modular connector system are provided for a power and data transmission network. The cable includes a pair of power conductors and a pair of signal conductors disposed in an insulative cover. The conductors are positioned to minimize differential mode noise imposed on the signal conductors by external sources. The connectors include a base module which is coupled conductors in the cable by insulation displacement members. Once installed, the base module may remain resident on the cable. An interface module is fitted to the base module for connecting a node device to the cable conductors via the modular connector. The system facilitates installation while providing a high degree of immunity to noise.

  • Patent number: 6179644
Abstract: A network system is provided for transmitting electrical power and data signals between a plurality of device nodes. The system includes a trunk cable in which a pair of dedicated power conductors and a pair of dedicated signal conductors are embedded in an insulative cover. Modular connectors are electrically coupled to the cable conductors at each device node. Each connector includes a base module and an interface module. The base module is attached to the cable via insulation piercing members and thereafter remains resident on the cable. The interface module is mated with the base module and serves to transmit power and data signals between the base module and a networked device. Several types of interface modules may be utilized interchangeably to permit the base module and cable to accommodate various types of devices and device drop cables.

  • Patent number: 6095867
Abstract: A network, network connector and method are provided for transmitting power and data signals between device nodes. The network utilizes a trunk cable in which a pair of power conductors and a pair of signal conductors are embedded in an insulative cover. The connector makes contact with the power and signal conductors during installation, such as by contact members which pierce the insulative cover of the cable. The connector has a base portion and an interface portion fitted to the base portion. A capacitor is disposed in the base portion and electrically coupled across the power conductors when the connector is installed. A node device is coupled to the cable via the interface module. When the device draws power from the cable, the capacitor limits perturbations of the supply voltage to reduce differential mode noise on the signal conductors.

  • Patent number: 6037857
Abstract: Low voltage logic circuitry is used to permit an entire subsystem of an industrial controller to be placed within a hazardous environment to receive a high speed serial link and undertake the control of multiple control points without expensive and awkward long cable runs and electrically isolating circuits for each cable run. Energy and bandwidth limiting on the high speed link allows power levels commensurate with high data rates yet intrinsic safety of the media allowing it to freely pass in and out of the hazardous area. A mixture of intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe equipment on the same logical rack is allowed through a bus isolator providing isolated data communication in backplane fashion between modules while wholly isolating power transmission along the backplane.
