Patents by Inventor Robert E. Nikkel

Robert E. Nikkel has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 9636740
Abstract: Punch foot and micro-stop foot for use in removing rivets from joined work pieces. Blades in the punch foot create indentations in a rivet head, and blades in the micro-stop foot engage the indentations in the rivet head to prevent the rivet from spinning during the removal process.

  • Patent number: 8640322
Abstract: Adapter for increasing the stroke length of a fastener installation tool. The adapter includes a tensile member with a first rack gear, a compressive member with a second rack gear, and a plurality of pinion gears retained within a pinion gear housing. The tensile member is mateable with the puller shaft of the installation tool and with the tensile member of an installation head. The pinion gear housing is mateable with the body of the installation tool. The distal end of the compressive member is mateable with a reducing member, which in turn mates with the outer sleeve of the installation head. Operation of the pulling tool moves the tensile member axially toward the tool body and engages the pinion gears, which in turn move the compressive member axially away from the tool body.

  • Patent number: 8640315
Abstract: A rotating adapter for joining an offset, right angle, or other pulling head to a pulling tool. The adapter allows one-handed positioning of a pulling head that is offset, oriented at an angle relative to the tool, or designed to fit into a relatively tight space. The pulling head can be rotated and/or repositioned repeatedly without changing the stroke length of the pulling tool.

  • Patent number: 8371017
Abstract: An installation head for use with captive panel fasteners. The head is adapted for mounting onto a conventional fastener installation tool that can apply a predetermined outer axial compressive force distributed about a predetermined inner axial tensile force. The pulling head transfers the outer axial compressive force to an inner axial compressive force delivered to a flaring anvil, while at the same time transferring the inner axial tensile force to an outer axial tensile force delivered to an internally threaded bushing that accommodates the threaded shank of a captive panel fastener. Using the tool and the installation head to apply the predetermined axial tensile and compressive forces, captive panel fasteners can be reliably installed using a single tool stroke.

  • Patent number: 7530155
Abstract: A pulling head for use during installation of blind rivets, blind bolts, and lock bolts. The pulling head includes a faceted jaw holder disposed about a jaw assembly. The tool also includes an anvil sleeve that is rotatable about the jaw holder and jaw assembly and has at least one side opening sized to expose at least one of the facets of the jaw holder. The opening provides a smaller radial distance between the center of the pulling head and its outside edge to allow installation of blind rivets, blind bolts, and lock bolts where there is insufficient space for a full-diameter pulling head.

  • Patent number: 7363798
Abstract: A flexible extension device that can be mounted between a fastener installation tool and a pulling head. The device can flex over a range up to about 45 degrees and can operate under tensile and compressive loads required for installing fasteners. It includes adapters that can mate with a desired type of installation tool and pulling head.

  • Patent number: 7155953
Abstract: An anvil driving assembly, anvil driving tool, and method for installing rivetless floating nut plates in workpieces. The tool and method are capable of pulling a rivetless nut plate sleeve into a countersunk hole in the workpiece simultaneously with flaring the open end of the nut plate sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4989787
Abstract: The invention is directed to improvements in existing liquid hand held spray guns which deliver liquid to a spray nozzle and have fixed or adjustable spray pattern adjustment of the liquid being dispensed from the nozzle. The improvements comprise the addition of a ball valve between the spray gun internal air flow passage and a container of liquid to be sprayed through the nozzle and a venturi assembly which attaches upstream in a series relationship between the pressurized air input to the gun and the source of pressurized air. The venturi assembly is adaptable to substantially all of the liquid spray guns of the type described and when installed reduces the pressure of the pressurized air entering the gun to 10 PSI or less to comply with governmental environmental pollution standards.
