  • Publication number: 20230222079
Abstract: A system and method for efficient data transfer in a computing system are described. A computing system includes multiple nodes that receive tasks to process. A bridge interconnect transfers data between two processing nodes without the aid of a system bus on the motherboard. One of the multiple bridge interconnects of the computing system is an optical bridge interconnect that transmits optical information across the optical bridge interconnect between two nodes. The receiving node uses photonic integrated circuits to translate the optical information into electrical information for processing by electrical integrated circuits. One or more nodes switch between using an optical bridge interconnect and a non-optical bridge interconnect based on one or more factors such as measured power consumption and measured data transmission error rates.

  • Patent number: 6263957
Abstract: An integrated cooling device for use in cooling an electronic component or an integrated circuit and a method of manufacturing the same. In one embodiment, the device includes: (1) a plate couplable to and supportable by the electronic component, the plate having at least one channel therein, (2) a closed-circuit circulation pipe having a heat-receiving portion disposed in the at least one channel to place the heat-receiving portion in thermal communication with the plate, the circulation pipe further having a heat-removing portion distal from the heat receiving portion, (3) a coolant located within the circulation pipe and (4) a pump coupled to the circulation pipe, supported by the plate and operable to cause the coolant to circulate through the circulation pipe.

  • Patent number: 6206708
Abstract: For use with a plate having a via located therethrough an electrical connector configured to transfer an electrical signal from one major surface of a plate to the other major surface, a method of manufacturing the electrical connector and a board mounted power supply utilizing the same. In one embodiment, the electrical connector comprises a dielectric layer coating a peripheral wall of the via and extending therefrom to coat portions of the opposing major surfaces of the plate adjacent the via. The electrical connector further comprises a conductive contact layer that covers a portion of the dielectric layer and extends to portions of the opposing major surfaces to form opposing contacts thereon.

  • Patent number: 6165596
Abstract: An insulated metal substrate printed wiring board includes a thermally conductive base plate. A first dielectric layer is disposed on the base plate. An electrically conductive trace is disposed on the top surface of the first dielectric layer. A second dielectric layer is disposed on the top surface of the first electrically conductive trace. A second electrically conductive trace is disposed on the top surface of the second dielectric layer. The second dielectric layer and the second electrically conductive trace include an aperture to expose the electrically conductive trace disposed on the top surface of the first dielectric layer. High power dissipating components are mounted through the aperture in the second electrically conductive layer and second dielectric layer for electrical connection to the electrically conductive trace disposed on the top surface of the first dielectric layer.

  • Patent number: 5884240
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring and storing a tree characteristic that preferably is tree diameter and other data related to location, variety and grade of a tree being measured. The apparatus has a handle, a wand extending therefrom, and a measurement head carried by the wand for measuring diameter. The wand has a control handle connected by a cable to a movable caliper jaw carried by the head to measure a diameter of a tree between the movable jaw and another jaw. A vernier having measurement locator slots and a home position slot is carried by the cable and communicates with slot sensors that send signals to an on-board computer to determine direction and distance of jaw movement for enabling the distance between the jaws to be determined. Two optoisolators and the computer comprise a jaw motion and direction detecting quadrature detector. A third optoisolator detects when the movable jaw is in its home position.

  • Patent number: 5835018
Abstract: A low water level indicator includes a detection assembly and an indicator unit. The detection assembly comprises a housing, a pair of electrodes, a control unit, and a battery. The indicator unit comprises a light emitting diode (LED) and a base plate. The housing is preferably molded as two halves which are joined at assembly. An adjustment rod is held by a first and second snap retainer at substantially the bottom of the housing. The adjustment rod is used to adjust the height of the bottom of the housing relative to a water container. The electronic control circuit is mounted in a top cavity. A hook rod is held by a top spring clip which is disposed at substantially the top of the housing. The hook rod is used to provide stability for the placement of the detection assembly. When the water level in a water container is too low, electrical current will no longer pass from the first electrode to the second electrode through the water.
