  • Patent number: 5540637
Abstract: A stationary exercising apparatus which promotes cardiovascular exercise yet minimizes impact to critical joints. A base frame supports a pair of reciprocating members which are displaced in a horizontal direction parallel with the floor at one end yet reciprocate in a circular motion at the other end through a coupling system attached to the frame. Structure is included which permits each foot of the user to move in a generally elliptical path during the climbing exercise. This provides for more movement of the foot platform in a substantially elliptical path while each foot platform, or a predetermined reference plane for each platform, remains substantially parallel with the floor through at least a portion of the lower half of the elliptical path proximate the forward end of the elliptical path.

  • Patent number: 5529555
Abstract: A crank assembly for use within an exercising device which promotes cardiovascular exercise yet minimizes impact on critical joints, particularly the ankles and knees. The crank assembly employs a dual coupler system which is interconnected for synchronized rotation. Linkage assemblies are provided which define a predetermined path having preferred anatomical pattern for foot movement of the user. The crank assembly can be used in an exercising device which promotes leg exercise primarily, or can be combined with two additional linkage assemblies to provide a combined hand motion with leg movement. In this manner, an enhanced cardiovascular workout is provided which minimizes stress on key joints, particularly the ankles and knees.

  • Patent number: 5527246
Abstract: A mobile exercising apparatus which promotes cardiovascular exercise yet minimizes impact to critical joints. A frame supports a pair of reciprocating members which are displace generally horizontally along the frame at one end yet reciprocate in a circular motion at the other through a coupling system attached to the frame. Structure is included which permits each foot of the user to move in a generally elliptical path during exercise and drive a wheel thereby propelling the apparatus. This allows simulation of walking or running without impact. The device may include linkage to facilitate a corresponding upper body exercise involving movement of the arm in which case each hand of the user is displaced along an arcuate path.

  • Patent number: 4900013
Abstract: An improved exercise apparatus, having two rails in parallel relation supported on a frame. Supported internally to each rail are two travellers, the four travellers for engagement with the limbs of the user. Each pair of travellers is supported internally to the rail one above the other, with the bottom travellers extending outwardly beyond the sides of the apparatus. The travellers ride within grooves in the rails. Also supported within each rail is an endless chain means. When the travellers are coupled to the endless chain means, the user encounters a resistive force from a force resistance system. Each set of travellers is selectively coupled to the respective endless chain means.

  • Patent number: 4844450
Abstract: An exercise device for simulated swimming strokes is disclosed. A cabinet supported on a frame serves as a base and has a body supporting platform thereabove, one portion supporting the torso and parallel duplicate hinge portions supporting the legs of the user. The user's arms reciprocate cable means and the user's legs reciprocate pivotal push rods extending into the cabinetry for rotating power consuming means comprising independent arm and leg powered fly wheels respectively connected to arm and leg powered means.

  • Patent number: 4679786
Abstract: In an exercise device having an elongate frame, a user can exercise by engaging four slides, one for each limb. The slides travel along parallel paths, enabling reciprocating motion. Each slide connects to a chain or cable segment to enable reciprocating cable motion. The motion is coupled to elongate cables (one or more) which connect to gears, causing reciprocation of clutches, thereby impulsing a fly wheel in a single direction and causing rotation.

  • Patent number: 4282642
Abstract: A racquet for use in racquet sports is disclosed. In the preferred and illustrated embodiment, a composite racquet construction is set forth which utilizes an extruded metal frame which accepts multilayered, laminated, fiber reinforced, resin material typically including an epoxy base with graphite or fiberglass therein. The extruded section receives the laminate material prior to curing wherein the metal extruded section serves as a mold. After curing, the composite frame has improved properties over the metal extrusion, alone, and enhances frame strength, rigidity and flexure characteristics. The extruded frame incorporates a central webbing which is subsequently drilled with holes for stringing the racquet.

  • Patent number: 4243099
Abstract: In the preferred embodiment of the well bore apparatus of the present invention disclosed herein, a new and improved well tool is provided with a plurality of tool-positioning members that are pivotally coupled to the body of the tool and adapted for movement between their respective retracted and extended positions. To control the movements of the tool-positioning members, a selectively-reversible electric motor is cooperatively coupled to the pivotal members in such a manner that upon operation of the motor in one rotational direction, the members are released so as to be free to respectively move toward their extended positions in response to a biasing force selected to extend the members at a predetermined rapid speed of travel. Upon reversal of the motor, the members are recoupled and returned to their retracted positions.
