  • Patent number: 6863718
Abstract: Metal pigment particles are treated with a product resulting from the reaction between an organic phosphonic acid with an amine having at least one organic group containing at least six carbon atoms to inhibit their reactivity to water. The treated metal particles can be used in coating and ink compositions. Additionally, the treated metal particles can be used to formulate pastes and dispersions that are provided to a coatings manufacturer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 2001
Date of Patent: March 8, 2005
    Assignee: Silberline Manufacturing Co., Inc.
Inventors: H. Taylor Lamborn, Robert E. Souerwine, Craig B. Keemer

  • Patent number: 5993523
Abstract: Metal particles useful for coating compositions, particularly aqueous coating compositions, are produced by treating the metal particles with a molybdate pigment. The molybdate pigment reacts with the surface of the metal particles. The molybdate pigment may be a salt such as a molybdate, phosphomolybdate or silicomolybdate salt, and the salt may include a multivalent cation such as calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium, zinc and aluminum. The metal particles show improved resistance to attack by water.
