Abstract: Security vulnerabilities of one or more target hosts are assessed by a remote or local host via a server. The hosts and the server are coupled to the internet and communicate via hypertext pages and email. A user at an arbitrary host on the internet inputs data identifying the user and/or the arbitrary host, and the target host. A network address is obtained for the user and a certification file such as Internic can be checked to determine a network address of the user and confirm that the user is authorized to assess the security vulnerabilities of the target host. A facts file is built on the server by polling the services available at the target host, including inquiries to the various ports of the TCP subsystem, for building a table of services and responses. A security algorithm compares the responses to stored data for identifying likely security vulnerabilities.

Abstract: A security arrangement for a building comprises a control module, an alarm and a multiplicity of stations each station being actuated upon receipt of a signal from the control module, each station incorporating a detector adapted to provide a signal indicative of the status of the station, the stations further comprising locks or other security devices, the control module being arranged to actuate the alarm on detection of unauthorized status of the station.

Abstract: A communications system comprises a plurality of transceivers capable of transmitting and receiving data from other transceivers in the system. At least one transceiver functions as a control module. Communication between the control module and the remainder of the communications modules occurs by consecutive communication between individual communications modules in the system. This means that low power transceivers can be used to form a system having a long range capability.

Abstract: A motor vehicle is adapted to enable ready entry and exit of the vehicle for a disabled person from or into his wheel-chair, and also to enable convenient storage of the folded wheel-chair in the vehicle. The adaptation consists in the provision of a seat which can be moved from a normal position within the vehicle to a displaced position projecting laterally outwardly of the vehicle, whereby the disabled person can readily slide himself from his wheel-chair into the seat and vice versa, and also in the provision of storage means on the inside of the door adjacent to the seat into which the folded wheel-chair can be located for retention on said door between the door and the seat.

Abstract: A method and system for connecting the ends of a pair of tubular conduits for use at the bottom of a body of water in which terminal portions of said conduits, adjacent to and including said ends, are buoyantly supported in a generally elevated attitude within the body of water with the ends in a zone of the body of water below the surface thereof. The ends are positively fixed against movement relative to each other but permitted limited movement, as a unit, relative to the bottom of the body of water. The connection of the conduit ends is made within the aforementioned zone of the body of water.

Abstract: A mining machine comprises a laterally elongated cutting head including means for cutting an earth formation, a laterally elongated thrust transmitting column connected to and extending rearwardly from the cutting head, and a power head connected to the rear of the column and operative to thrust the cutting head forward into the earth formation by means of the interposed column. The column carries a non-thrust transmitting column conveyor for carrying fragments cut from the formation from the cutting head to the power head.
