Patent number: 6226997Abstract: A method for preserving the temperature integrity of cryogenically preserved biological samples is presented, involving initiating a countdown sequence upon removal of a sample from a controlled portable or bulk storage environment, requiring operator action to terminate the countdown on restoration of the sample to a controlled environment. Audible and visual warnings are provided to an operator prior to attainment of a critical temperature, beyond which damage may accrue to the sample. A portable device facilitating execution of the method is described.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1999Date of Patent: May 8, 2001Assignee: Cryo-Cell International, Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Vago

Patent number: 5921102Abstract: A storage unit includes a housing with a storage chamber, a carrier disposed inside the chamber for supporting a plurality of specimens in a predetermined array, and an access port on the housing for enabling access to the chamber for insertion and retrieval of specimens from the carrier. The access port includes an opening in the housing and a plug member removably located in the opening. The carrier is provided with a seat for receiving the plug member during an access operation, so that the plug member is located in the chamber during the access operation. A drive is operatively connected to the carrier for moving the carrier in the chamber to juxtapose different specimens to the access port. An insertion and removal mechanism is coupled to the housing for alternately inserting and removing specimens from the chamber via the access port during the access operation.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Assignee: Cryo-Cell International, Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 5305737Abstract: To provide ultrasonic cleaning of inanimate objects, ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of between 15 kilohertz and 10 megahertz are applied to water in a tank with a power density between 15 and 7,000 watts per square centimeter. Asymmetric power waves are applied to avoid instability leading to transient cavitation. To provide ultrasonic treatment of animals, ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of between 15 kilohertz and 500 kilohertz are applied to water in a tub with a power density between 0.1 and 5 watts per square centimeter. The equipment is able to apply ultrasonic waves with at least two power densities in the vicinity of the portion of the animal with one of said power densities being more than 15 watts per square meter for sterilizing the water before the patient enters the tub and the other being less than 15 watts per square meter.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1992Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: Arjo Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4888834Abstract: To permit comfortable bathing by an ambulatory patient without the assistance of another person, a bathing system includes a movable portion and a stationary portion, with a movable portion including a tub that pivots between a bathing position and an entering-and-exiting position. The stationary portion includes a seat for the patient which remains stationary as the tub moves, a drive mechanism for the bath tub and a source of warm sparging air and warm circulating air. When the tub is in the entering-and-exiting position, the chair is positioned so the patient can enter it easily but recessed within the tub walls so that he is partly encompassed by the tub and the warm air is able to circulate around the patient. The pivot point and size of the tub permit the tub to fit within an alcove. Controls are mounted so that the patient may manipulate the tub from position to position and control the warm air and water.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1988Date of Patent: December 26, 1989Assignee: Malmros Holding, Inc.Inventor: Robert E.
