  • Patent number: 6845399
Abstract: A method and apparatus that enhances a multicast information stream, such as an IP multicast session, in a communication network is provided. The stream is received through the communication network and is enhanced at substantially the time the first stream is received. The information stream may be enhanced by adding transcribed content, such as content generated by speech recognition software, or translated content, such as from a first language to a second language, to the stream. The information stream may also be enhanced by adding content to the first information stream, such as content is related to the original content. The enhanced stream may be sent to a user as a second multicast information stream. The enhanced stream may be received by the user in place of, or along with, the original information stream. The enhanced content may be sent to the user at the conclusion of the information stream, if desired.

  • Publication number: 20040264045
Abstract: The present invention is a magnetic head having a helical induction coil and includes hard disk drive devices that utilize the magnetic head. The helical coil is fabricated around a magnetic pole yoke in a series of process steps that include a reactive ion etch (RIE) process step which is utilized to simultaneously form vertical interconnect vias and upper helical coil member trenches. Thereafter, in a single fabrication step, such as by electroplating, the vertical interconnect lines and the upper helical coil traces are created in a single fabrication step, such that they are integrally formed. The vertical interconnect lines provide an electrical connection between outer ends of previously formed lower helical coil traces and outer ends of the integrally formed upper helical coil traces, such that a helical coil is fabricated. In the preferred embodiment, the helical coil is composed of copper.

  • Patent number: 6827153
Abstract: A garden tool with a non-slip handle grip, designed for immediate and not difficult removal of deep-rooted plants such as Thistle and Dock weeds. The body of the tool is of rigid and strong construction, with angled cutting faces and includes a plant/soil containment chamber. The tools angular cutting faces and profile, are designed to produce efficient insertion and soil compression when downward thrust is applied, which therefore holds captive the plant root in the containment chamber, hence achieving successful plant removal from the ground when the tool is withdrawn. The slotted front of the containment chamber allows for unwanted plant and soil removal from the tool. Optional hand and foot cross-members added, to produce more forceful insertion into and easier withdrawal from the ground, and to create a convenient standing operating stance, when using the tool.

  • Publication number: 20040236473
Abstract: The system carries out continuous in-vehicle data measurement and storage for subsequent processing. A given driving manoeuvre is sub-divided into facets and the measured vehicle data is processed to provide a local rating for each of the facets using empirically derived transfer functions. The local ratings are weighted and combined to provide an overall rating which is converted to a rating out of ten based on a further transfer function based on correlations between derived and subjectively observed ratings. As a result, driveability rating and engine calibration/development can be accelerated and targeted.

  • Patent number: 6821715
Abstract: A suspended resist bridge suitable for lithographically patterning MR sensors having trackwidths narrower than 0.2 micron is fabricated using the method of the present invention. First, PMGI is spun onto a substrate to form a first thin resist layer. Next, PMMA is spun onto the first resist layer to form a second resist layer. The PMMA layer is exposed to an electron beam to pattern the trackwidth of the MR sensors. E-beam exposed PMMA is then developed in an IPA solution. The resist structure is then placed in a basic solution for dissolving PMGI, which results in a fully undercut resist bridge that is used for patterning the MR sensors.

  • Publication number: 20040218606
Abstract: A packet switch router that processes downstream digital information to provide dedicated bandwidth to each subscriber destination on a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network. The router includes a network module that terminates a network connection, a switch that forwards data from the network module, and a channel module. The channel module includes a switch interface, a cell processing engine, one or more modulators, and a radio frequency (RF) transmitter network. The switch interface forwards packetized data from the switch to the cell processing engine. The cell processing engine organizes the packetized data into multiple data streams, encapsulates data in each stream into data cells, and multiplexes the data cells into a multiplexed cell stream. Each modulator is configured to modulate a multiplexed cell stream into an analog signal. The RF transmitter network up converts and combines a plurality of analog signals into a combined electrical signal for transmission.

  • Publication number: 20040220714
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a method and system for providing brake control, autobrake and antiskid brake functionality by recognizing that the only difference between the three functions is the amount of deceleration they allow. Unlike a conventional system where the pedals represent brake pressure, the present invention interprets pedal commands as desired deceleration. The method and system involve controlling acceleration of a wheel reference speed and setting a desired slip based on autobrake settings, pedal positions, and various parameters. A proportional/integral/derivative algorithm controls wheel speed and is monitored for normal operation. Abnormal operation generates control parameters which are used to alter the wheel reference speed and its deceleration. Additionally, vehicles using the invention will benefit from improved yaw stability, even brake temperatures and differential braking during antiskid operation.
