Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) array comprises an array of LEDs mounted to a substrate. The LEDs emit light in a direction generally perpendicular to the substrate. An optical sheet is disposed over the LEDs. At least a portion of light entering one side of the optical sheet from the LEDs is guided within the optical sheet in a direction generally parallel to the substrate. Light extraction features direct light from the optical sheet in a generally forward direction. Such an array is useful for several applications, including space lighting, direct information display and backlighting of liquid crystal displays. The light spreading effect of the optical sheet reduces the amount of black space between LED pixels.

Abstract: An optical device for collecting light and selectively outputting or concentrating the light. A layer has an optical index of referaction n1, and top, bottom and side surfaces defining an angel of inclination ?. A back surface spans the top, bottom and side surface. A first layer is coupled to the bottom surface of the layer and has an index of refraction n2. The first layer index n2 causes light input through the back surface of the layer to be preferentially output into the first layer. A second layer is coupled to the bottom of the first layer and selectively causes output of light into ambient. Additional layers, such as alight polarization layer, a polarization converting layer a and a post LCD diffuser layer can be used to make preferential use of polarized light of diffuse light having passed through the LCD layer to enhance viewing of the output light.

Abstract: A financial management system and method therefor enables an individual user to access and maintain healthcare records concerning encounters of an individual with a healthcare provider organization. The encounters include interactions of the individual with the healthcare provider organization that have a financial consequence. The financial management system includes an acquisition processor, a storage processor, a data processor, and an output processor. The acquisition processor receives, via electronic communication from a healthcare provider organization, information related to at least one healthcare encounter of an individual user. The storage processor stores the received healthcare encounter information. The data processor retrieves and processes the received healthcare encounter information to provide data, representing at least one record, indicating a history of encounters of the individual user with the healthcare provider organization.

Abstract: A dictionary system provides a term repository supporting the operation of an enterprise, which dynamically updates its content in response to system use. An input processor acquires transaction message data in at least one of a plurality of different data formats. A data processor parses the acquired transaction message data to extract a term from the message data. The processor then compares the extracted term to terms in a first term repository. The first term repository is updated to include the extracted term if the extracted term is absent from said first term repository. A communication processor intermittently processes the content of said first term repository to be suitable for communication to a second term repository.

Abstract: A system for providing a generic healthcare data repository includes an input processor for acquiring healthcare transaction message data in at least one of a plurality of different data formats. A data processor extracts message content type and patient associated identifier information from the transaction message data, processes the transaction message data for storage in a structured repository in a location specified using the patient associated identifier information. A storage processor stores the processed transaction message data in the structured repository.

A system for providing healthcare related information comprises a database incorporating information identifying an encompassing organization and multiple constituent organizations of the encompassing organization including a constituent organization type identifier. The database information also incorporates location information identifying multiple locations in a constituent organization available to accommodate a patient for different purposes and includes a location type identifier.
