  • Patent number: 7412368
Abstract: Methods and computer-readable media are provided for determining design parameters for oil well casing and tubing to prevent buckling in deviated wellbores. Well parameter data including tubing size, tubing weight, well depth, and well geometry is obtained and may be utilized to calculate parameters for predicting the movement of tubing near a packer or centralizer in the deviated wellbore based on the received well parameter data, predicting a total bending moment near the packer or centralizer, predicting a maximum bending stress near the packer or centralizer based on the total bending moment, and predicting the minimum axial force necessary to initiate buckling due to friction, and predicting the onset of buckling for the connection of tubing of different sizes. After the parameters have been calculated, they may be utilized in the design of the oil well casing and tubing to prevent buckling in the deviated wellbore.

  • Patent number: 4969514
Abstract: An apparatus for retrieving a pipe section from a well bore includes a structure to be connected to the lower end of a drilling string. The structure includes a cutter at its lower end and a controllable gripping member for gripping the interior of a pipe section. The gripping member is located above the cutter and is adapted to grip the interior of the pipe. The gripping member is such that when in a gripping condition the gripping member remains stationary while the drilling string and the cutter are rotated.

  • Patent number: 4166171
Abstract: This invention concerns a method for the removal and recovery of synthetic polymers from solvents using dropwise impingement of a solution of the polymer in a solvent upon a mobile capillary inactive liquid surface to volatilize and recover the solvent, leaving the previously dissolved synthetic polymer on the surface of the capillary inactive liquid. The solvent is recovered by condensation for reuse and the polymer is recovered from the surface of the liquid by mechanical means.
