  • Patent number: 5425973
Abstract: An integral overwrap protective system for a vehicle, e.g., a missile. Includes a filament wound fiber reinforced rubber matrix over a fiber-reinforced composite laminate which forms the vehicle inner skin and a final elastomeric outer coating. The integral overwrap avoids the bonding between vehicle skin and the protective system as in the present systems.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 20, 1995
    Assignee: McDonnell Douglas Corporation
Inventors: John R. Frangipane, Steven F. Stone, Robert F. Reizer
  • Patent number: 5413023
Abstract: An elastomeric prepreg wherein a carrier, whether roving, yarn, broad goods or tape, is impregnated with an uncured elastomeric rubber system which may include the addition of modifiers to enhance the properties of the coating. The prepreg is capable of being spooled and de-spooled for subsequent filament winding or laid up into laminates. In either process no environmental control equipment is required as the volatiles have previously been removed, leaving the elastomer in the generally uncured state.

  • Patent number: 5196228
Abstract: An elastomeric composition having high resistance to laser radiation and to thermal radiation, which consists essentially of a phenylpolysiloxane and an additive selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, boron nitride, and mixtures thereof, particularly titanium dioxide, in a proportion of about 10 to about 30 pats of the additive per 100 parts of the polysiloxane. When such elastomer composition is coated on an aerospace vehicle such as a missle, the composition then cured and subjected to high intensity laser radiation or thermal radiation, the composition forms a substantially white char which is effectively reflective to such radiation, thereby protecting such vehicle from the adverse effects of such radiation.

  • Patent number: 4365029
Abstract: A coating and adhesive composition which comprises an ethylene-acrylic elastomer, a high molecular weight polyvinyl chloride and a filler, preferably carbon black. The composition is cured with a suitable catalyst, preferably an amine catalyst, to form an abrasion resistant coating, which can also be employed as a repair coating, especially for damaged plastic materials or sheets on a substrate, particularly sheets formed from ethylene-acrylic elastomer. The composition can also be employed as an adhesive or bonding material for such plastic sheets.
