    Abstract: Integral with a high speed, computer controlled banking machine is a depository system to provide a fully automatic teller station. At the customer interface there is an entry gate controlled to an open position by a solenoid actuated in accordance with computer generated signals. A deposit envelope inserted through the entry gate is detected by a light sensor as it moves along a pinch roller transport extending to a printing station. An envelope transported to the printing station is held in a fixed position, while a numeric print machine is acutated to imprint on the envelope identifying data. When the print cycle is completed, a computer generated signal energizes a solenoid to open a security door to a storage bin and reactuates the pinch roller transport to deliver the envelope into the storage bin. A sensor is activated when an envelope enters the storage bin, and the security door is closed and locked as the trailing edge of the envelope passes the sensor.

    Abstract: Bank notes are accurately delivered to a customer in a preselected amount at an exit throat from a storage bin. Delivery of the bank notes from the storage bin is on an individual basis to an escrow station where the number of bills of currency representing the preselected amount is collected for delivery to the customer at the exit throat. In the transport path from the storage bin to the escrow station multiple bank notes and trailing bank notes are detected to control the operation of the banking machine to deliver the notes at the escrow station either to the customer or divert a miscount of the bank notes to a divert bin. Initially, the process for transporting bills from the storage bin to the escrow station actuates a main drive motor of a transport system. Bank notes are fed from the storage bin to the transport system and if more than one bill is fed to the transport system all but one are returned to the storage bin.

    Abstract: Banking machines for dispensing paper currency require a document transport for accurately and reliably delivering a single bill or piece of currency from a storage bin to a customer. The document transport includes a feeder unit for delivering single pieces of currency from a stack to a pair of separator rollers and past a double document detector. Upon detection of more than one document passing through the separator rollers, a clutch is energized to cause one of the rollers to rotate in a direction opposite the other to separate the several bills and allow only the top one to be forwarded into a flat belt transport. As a piece of paper currency passes through the flat belt transport, spaced detectors produce a signal that indicates an overlapping or trailing document condition. This overlapping or trailing condition is measured by the spacing of detectors in the flat belt transport.
