  • Patent number: 9920177
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for producing a polystyrene foam. The polystyrene is dosed with a gas and the polystyrene and gas are mixed in an extruder in order to obtain a homogenous mixture. The homogeneous mixture is cooled as it travels through the extruder and is then extruded from the die at a pressure of less than 7 MPa to form a foam with a smooth skin.

Date of Patent: March 20, 2018
    Assignee: NMC S.A.

  • Publication number: 20120315448
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for making articles having a veined aspect that includes the steps of (a) extruding a layer of substantially transparent PMMA including pigmented granules in a first extruder, (b) extruding a polystyrene layer including a foaming agent in a second extruder, wherein the extrusions of steps (a) and (b) are carried out simultaneously as a co-extrusion.

  • Publication number: 20090130311
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the continuous, single-step application of a decoration to at least one face of articles made from an extruded- or foamed-plastic material. The aforementioned step comprises: (i) the embossing of at least one face of the article, by passing the article under an embossing roller which is equipped with a relief groove; and (ii) the printing of said at least one face of the article with the transfer of an ink from a composite film with transferable ink. The printing step is performed concomitantly with the embossing step with the same embossing roller which is made form an elastic material and which is heated to the surface softening temperature of the plastic article. The invention also relates to a device for decorating extruded- and foamed-plastic articles in a single step, to the articles thus decorated and to the use of the method and the device.

  • Publication number: 20070023946
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing solid, hollow or open profiles, in particular those including sharp edges, based on polystyrene, including the following steps: dosing polymers comprising polystyrene and optionally other additives and adjuvants plasticizing the components in an extruder in order to obtain a homogenous mixture, injecting a pressurized gas via an injection port kneading and pressurizing said homogenous mixture and gas until complete dissolution of the gas in order to obtain a mixture in a single phase, gradually cooling said mixture as a single phase in order to maintain the pressure required for solubilizing the gas, having said mixture pass as a single phase mixture, into a shaping tool in order to form a foam, having the thereby formed foam pass through an optionally temperature-controlled calibration system, drawing the calibrated foam with a motor.
