  • Patent number: 6579045
Abstract: A tool component comprising an abrasive element presenting a cutting edge or point and a thermally conductive element having a thermal conductivity greater than the thermal conductivity of the abrasive element, wherein the thermally conductive element is in thermal contact with the abrasive element so as to conduct heat generated at the cutting edge or point away from such cutting edge or point. The thermally conductive element may be bonded to a substrate. The abrasive element may be PCBN and the thermally conductive element may be either CVD diamond or PCD or else the abrasive element may be PCD and the thermally conductive element may be CVD diamond.

  • Patent number: 6567397
Abstract: A method of non-real-time two-way wireless data communications using a synchronous time division multiplexed architecture (TDMA) protocol in a communications system having a plurality of fixed base stations (BS) and a plurality of receiver/transmitters (RTs), wherein a BS controller dynamically changes a plurality of data blocks in both an uplink and a downlink data frame, a plurality of data rates, a plurality of signal modulation techniques, and a plurality of frequencies according to a computer analysis of received signals in order to provide optimization of the system. The method further includes overhead data reduction techniques using abbreviations for identification character strings and concatenations of downlink data messages. Embodiment of a novel emergency alarm resolution techniques and a plurality of message collision avoidance techniques improves response times for remote transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20020159262
Abstract: A light projector is provided which includes an elliptical reflector, a first spherical retro-reflector, the first retro-reflector having an first aperture formed therein, the first aperture having a first diameter and a first center-point, a second spherical retro-reflector located between the elliptical reflector and the first retro-reflector, the second retro-reflector having a second aperture formed therein, the second aperture having a second diameter and a second center-point, the second diameter smaller than the first diameter, the first and second center-points lying along a common axis, and a light source, the light source located at a foci of the elliptical reflector, the light source lying along the common axis, the elliptical reflector reflecting light emitted by the light source, the reflected light passing through the first and second apertures, the first and second retro-reflectors being positioned so as to reflect light emitted by the light source back towards the light source.

  • Patent number: 6209852
Abstract: A chain hoist having a casing into which and with respect to which a chain travels is provided with an externally mounted position encoder assembly. A releasable connector, such as a ratchet strap, is employed to firmly but removably couple the position encoder assembly housing externally on the chain hoist casing. The releasable connector holds the position encoder assembly housing in a fixed position relative to the chain hoist casing. The position encoder assembly has a chain gear that is rotatably mounted relative to the position encoder assembly housing proximate to the chain access opening in the chain hoist casing. The precision encoder assembly chain gear engages the portion of the chain that is maintained under tension at a location externally of the chain hoist casing and rotates as the chain travels relative to the chain hoist casing.

  • Patent number: 5816690
Abstract: A compact and efficient theatrical light that includes four mirrors, a gobo apparatus a colorchanger/dowser/diffusion system, and a lens system. The light beam is reflected four times, each time by 90 degrees. The second reflection is perpendicular to the plane formed by the initial path of the beam and the path after the first reflection. The gobo, the lens system and the colorchanger/dowser/diffusion system are located between the second and the third mirrors. This achieves a very compact, but fully capable light which may be attached to and protected by a truss system when in use and when in transport. Also discussed is a simple color changer/dowser/diffusion system with color glass panels mounted to tracks and moveable into and out of the optical path by cables connected to each panel.

  • Patent number: 5653227
Abstract: A gas supply (30) supplies pressurized gas to a nozzle (1) such that a flow of gas is discharged through an aperture (77) defined between a lip (3) of the nozzle and a vibrating diaphragm (9). A liquid dispenser (42) introduces a metered quantity of liquid into the gas flow such that the liquid droplets are atomized by the vibrating diaphragm. The diaphragm is held under tension so that it is vibrated by the gas flow. The supply of gas may be a manually operated displacement or diaphragm pump or may be a pressurized gas container. Metered doses may be dispensed for oral inhalation without providing external energy source for the vibration of the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4660466
Abstract: The invention provides an espresso coffee machine comprising an electrically heated vessel with a removable tight-closing lid intended for receiving water, and a rising pipe one end of which opens out in the vicinity of the bottom of the vessel while the other end leads to a container arranged at a distance above the vessel intended for receiving ground coffee. Arranged on the lid is a pipe leading outside the vessel and connecting to the vessel interior via a valve which can be actuated outside the vessel. The lid pipe permits entry of dry steam into the machine to, for example, foam milk.
