Patent number: 8804773Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for maintaining voice call quality over a packet network by providing optimal de-jitter buffer depth and rate of change of depth. Buffer depth and rate of change of buffer depth may be initially determined by classifying the incoming call. Classification of the incoming calls may be accomplished by categorizing calls into groups based on characteristics of the calls. The buffer depth and rate of change of depth may be further optimized at the start of calls based on voice-path delay and packet loss probability measurements over one or more calls of the same class such that the voice-path delay is minimized while maintaining a certain packet loss probability, the packet loss probability is minimized while maintaining a certain voice-path delay, or an R-factor, which is an objective measure of voice quality, is maximized.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2011Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Gagan Choudhury, Robert G. Cole

Patent number: 8055755Abstract: A system and method make quality measurements in a network to determine if a Service Level Agreement is breached. The system includes a plurality of routers for routing traffic through the network, means for taking measurements on a path between a first router and a second router, and means for charging at least one of the plurality of routers when data related to the measurements falls below a target value.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2004Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Robert G. Patent number: 7243499Abstract: A refrigeration capillary tube inside suction tube heat exchanger assembly, including a suction tube whose ends each have a slot with a shaped inner end portion; two braze connectors, each including a sleeve portion with the free end having a shaped recess; a capillary tube adapted to be inserted into one of the suction tube ends and therethrough until each capillary tube ends extends from a suction tube end, each capillary tube end being deformed so as to emerge from the suction tube at locations abutting the shaped inner end portions thereof; and each of the braze connectors sleeve portions engaging one of the suction tube ends, with each suction tube slot cooperating with an adjacent one of the sleeve portion shaped recesses to contact, locate and subsequently fixedly secure the deformed capillary tube portions to the suction tube. Two methods of manufacturing the assembly are also set forth.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2005Date of Patent: July 17, 2007Assignee: Parker Hannifin CorporationInventors: Robert G. Cole, Michael W. Patent number: 6961315Abstract: The quality of conversational voice for Voice-over-Packet transmissions on a Path (11) in a packet network (10) is achieved by injecting probe packets for transmission along the path and then measuring packet loss and the delay. From the delay and loss measurements, analytic values for the voice quality impairment caused by delay and by network loss, respectively, are established. An overall measure of the conversational voice quality is then derived in accordance with the algebraic sum of the analytic values for the voice quality impairment caused by delay and by network loss, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2000Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: James M. Amster, Robert G. Cole, Joshua Hal Rosenbluth

Patent number: 6293125Abstract: A filter dryer for an air-conditioning system, including an elongated housing enclosing loose molecular sieve material, first and second fluid ports into the housing, a filter basket assembly supported at one end of the housing and a screen and baffle assembly supported at the opposite end of the housing. The first filter basket assembly includes a first cup-shaped filter basket which opens away from the first port toward the molecular sieve material. The first filter basket is retained by an annular, U-shaped flange to the inner surface of the housing by press-fit. The screen and baffle assembly includes a second cup-shaped filter basket which also opens away from the first port. The second filter basket includes a radially-enlarged cylindrical screen portion toward the open end of the basket, a radially-reduced cylindrical screen portion toward the closed end of the screen, and an annular shoulder between the radially-enlarged and radially-reduced portions.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2000Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Parker-Hannifin CorporationInventors: Robert G. Patent number: 5604961Abstract: A multiple purpose fastening device, system and method is provided which utilizes one or more fastening elements having an elongate flexible member with respective releasably interengaging, interlocking, or compressively joining, coupling or adhering opposing surfaces covering the entire length thereof with the exception of an end tab, gripping surface or end loop at at least one end thereof. The fastening apparatus of the present invention is not limited to a particular size or dimension. A method of fastening, joining, bundling, and/or the like one or more objects together employs one or more of the fastening devices of the present invention wrapped around one or more objects in a common direction to overlap or superimpose upon itself with the opposing releasable coupling surfaces joined over a portion of each flexible member. The end loops provide an anchoring point for attachment of additional devices, accessories, clips, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1995Date of Patent: February 25, 1997Assignee: Fox Ridge Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Robert G. Patent number: 5335224Abstract: Congestion control is implemented at the resources that actually suffer from congestion and, moreover the congestion control is performed within the network as well as at its access points. In a particular embodiment, congestion control is continuously performed at each resource. Use of each resource is controlled according to a head-of-the-line weighted round-robin service discipline thereby assuring fairness and full use of bandwidth for all active channels. Also, in order to control conditions of congestion, the queue of data elements waiting for service at each resource is regulated by a global congestion indicator for the entire queue. The data elements of each channel that are waiting for service are further regulated in response to specific local congestion indicators that are individualized for each channel. The global and local congestion indicators are used to guarantee predetermined levels of service for each channel.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1992Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventors: Robert G.
