  • Patent number: 10272582
Abstract: A belt cutter for cutting an end portion of a belt having regularly spaced ridges on one side. The belt cutter has a main body with a slot that receives the end portion of the belt. A blade extends from the main body into the slot. A deck having one or more grooves bounds one end of the slot. The grooves receive the belt's ridges and register the belt relative to the blade. A handle is provided to pull the cutter across the width of the belt in a direction parallel to the ridges for the blade to sever the end portion from the belt and form a new butt end parallel to the ridges.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 30, 2019
    Assignee: Laitram, L.L.C.
Inventors: Gabriel Nazar, Robert G. Guttenberg
  • Patent number: 9796135
Abstract: A belt splicer for splicing butt ends of thermoplastic belts together. The splicer uses a plurality of cranks in conjunction with heavy springs to close and rapidly open jaws holding butt ends of a belt in place against a heating wand for melting and against each other for welding the melted ends together. The rapid opening of the jaw also lowers the wand, which is locked in place by a wand lock during the melting of the butt ends.

  • Patent number: 8596622
Abstract: A belt splicer for butt-welding conveyor belts and methods for its operation. The belt splicer has clamp jaws that close to contact the butt edges of two belt sections against opposite ends of a heating wand and to hold the two melted butt edges together as they weld to each other. A toggle linkage assembly locks the clamped jaws closed and stores energy in a spring mechanism. The toggle linkage assembly allows the rapid release of the spring energy to accelerate the clamp jaws open to pull the melted butt ends rapidly away from the sides of the wand to avoid sticking. In another version, an air cylinder is used instead of the toggle linkage assembly and spring mechanism to close and rapidly open the splicer.
