  • Patent number: 5915873
Abstract: A notebook insert for use in a notebook that has a front cover and a back cover hingedly connected to an elongated spine where the spine has either at least two axially-aligned, openable rings evenly spaced longitudinally along the spine or a helical coil. The notebook insert includes a C-shaped frame and a rectangular support. The frame has a center portion and a pair of substantially equal-length arms, where the center portion has a plurality of openings near one edge for receiving the notebook rings and/or a plurality of catches for projecting through the loops of the coil. The support is pivotally connected to the frame by at least two axially-aligned, snap-together journals. The outer bearing surface of each journal is defined by the inner surface of a cylindrical depression located in a protrusion from one of support surfaces, where the cross section of the cylindrical depression forms an arc greater than 180.degree..

  • Patent number: 5638730
Abstract: A paper punch comprising a one-piece die body, a one-piece press body, and a plurality of one-piece punch heads; the die body and press body being pivoted along a rocking axis for a rocking motion between an inactive position and an active position, the punch heads operating therebetween; the die body providing a base with die holes, guides with guide holes, and a paper reception region therebetween; the punch heads being constrained by the guide holes for reciprocation along the axes of the die holes and the guide holes; the press body controlling axial retraction of the punch heads from the paper reception region, and projection of the punch heads through the paper reception region and into the die holes, the inactive position being where the punch heads are substantially fully retracted from the paper reception region and the active position being where the punch heads are substantially fully projected into the paper reception region; the punch heads having slides at one extremity; guide channels in the pr

  • Patent number: 5632188
Abstract: The present invention is an ergonomic paper punch, which includes a die body, a press body, and a plurality of punch heads. The die body and the press body are pivotally connected along an axis for a rocking motion, with the die body and press body forming a "V" shape when viewed in a cross-section perpendicular to the axis. The die body has a die base with a plurality of die holes, an equal number of brackets with guide holes, and a paper reception region in between the base and brackets. A portion of the upper surface of the press body is covered by a resilient, textured surface. The underside of the die base has a region for holding the punch-outs that is covered by a resilient tray. The tray is secured to the top surface of the die base, extends around the die base, and covers the punch-out holding region. The tray is completely detachable from the punch-out holding region so the region can be emptied, but remains attached to the die base so as to not get lost.

  • Patent number: 5490440
Abstract: A paper punch for punching one or more holes into one or more sheets is disclosed. The paper punch includes a pair of top and bottom plates, formed of a polymer and hingelike mounted to one another along respective straight edges about an off-center pivot point located below the surface of the bottom plate. The off-center hingelike mounting assures an equal tolerance in entry as the punch head enters its punch hole. The hingelike mounting further includes integral mounting members designed to secure the paper punch about rings of a loose-leaf binder. The hingelike mounting includes male members formed on one of the pair of plates designed to cooperate with female members formed on the other plate. One of the pair of plates is formed with a reentrant segment to facilitate the angular separation of said pair of plates from one another preparatory to insertion of a sheet therebetween. The pivot is off-centered by a distance equal to the height of a male punching member.

  • Patent number: 5419018
Abstract: A sheet-like, integral plastic accessory for a notebook is disclosed featuring at least one paper clip sheet. Each paper clip sheet is formed with a frame as defined by a pair of parallel spaced rims and a pair of outer cross rims. A plurality of ribs extend between the parallel spaced rims in parallel spaced relation to one another. A plurality of paper clip configurations extend from the rims and the ribs. Each paper clip configuration is formed with inner and outer elongated bands joined at one end at a nexus. A pair of curved segments define the nexus at one side thereof, with a constricted portion defining the same at an opposed side. Preferably, a pair of shoulders straddle the constricted portion and a burr connects the constricted portion of the paper clip configuration to the rims and the ribs. Preferably, the nexus is wider and stronger adjacent the curved segments than at the constricted portion, allowing the inner band to bend thereat with respect to the outer band without fracture.

  • Patent number: 5403108
Abstract: A paper punch for use in combination with either a notebook having a pair of covers and a spine therebetween or with a ruler. The paper punch essentially comprises a punching element of unitary construction and formed of a hard yet resilient plastic material, preferably by injection in a mold. The punching element is formed with a pair of parallel spaced arms resiliently connected to one another at one end and featuring male and female punching members respectively disposed on the arms in operative association with each other. A slit is formed in one of the arms in a plane normal to the punching members and bisecting the female punching member. In a normally inoperative position, the male punching member is partially disposed within its cooperative female member in close proximity to the slit, and in an operative position, the male punching member is fully disposed within its cooperative female member, traversing the slit.

  • Patent number: 4712713
Abstract: A gas cylinder coupling and weighing mechanism useful in a carbonated drink dispenser having a gas cylinder. The coupling and weighing mechanism supports the cylinder rotatably within a hood, the hood forming a lever which is biased upwardly by a spring. A full cylinder will pull the hood all the way down. As the cylinder is emptied, the hood will begin to move upward and when the cylinder is empty the hood will be fully upward. Mounted inside the hood is a fitting engaging with a mating fitting on the gas cylinder. The mating fitting is equipped with a pair of arms which are aligned with locking slots contained within the mating fitting which are used to engage pins on the fitting inside the hood when mounting the gas cylinder.
