  • Patent number: 6035754
Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a table on which a workpiece is placed, a miter saw unit supporting a saw blade, and a housing pivotally supporting the miter saw unit related to the table in such a manner that the miter saw unit is at least laterally pivotable. Further, the miter saw includes a bevel mechanism for selectively determining the lateral position of the miter saw unit at any of a plurality of pivoted positions, including a vertical position where the saw blade is positioned substantially vertically relative to the table, and leftward and rightward pivoted positions where the blade is inclined laterally leftwardly and laterally rightwardly from the vertical position. The bevel mechanism includes a movable rod and three fixed stop members, the rod being operable to move between a first rod position abutting one of the fixed stop members and a second rod position not abutting the one of the fixed stop members so as to permit the lateral pivotal movement of the miter saw unit.

  • Patent number: 6023848
Abstract: A saw blade clamping arrangement particularly for power reciprocating saws and similar tools having a reciprocating shaft connected to a cutting member includes a locking member and a locating pin which cooperates to prevent inadvertent removal of the saw blade. The saw blade clamping arrangement further includes a support member carried by the drive shaft for movement therewith. The support member at least partially defines a longitudinal slot for receiving the saw blade. The locating pin extends into the longitudinal slot and is adapted for partial insertion into the aperture from a first side of the saw blade. The locking member, which in the preferred embodiment is a spherical bearing, is operative for selectively engaging the saw blade with the drive shaft. The locking member is movable to a locking position in which the locking member is partially inserted into the aperture from a second side of the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 6009627
Abstract: A saw blade clamping arrangement particularly for power reciprocating saws and similar tools having a reciprocating shaft connected to a cutting member includes a biasing member preferably in the form of a spring clamp member. The biasing member is interconnected with the drive shaft and operative for providing a biasing force to retain the cutting member in operative connection with the drive shaft. A release lever is pivotally mounted to a housing of the saw for movement between first and second position. In the first position the release lever is spaced apart from the biasing member. In the second position the release lever engages the biasing member and opposes the biasing force of the biasing member to permit quick and easy removal and replacement of the saw blade. The spring clamp member biases the saw blade into operative engagement with the drive shaft. In a second preferred embodiment, the spring clamp member biases a locking member into engagement with the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 5940977
Abstract: According to one aspect of the invention, a reciprocating saw 21, 154 comprises a housing 23, 154 pivotable about a first axis 29. A blade holder 49 is mounted for reciprocation along a second axis 53 perpendicular to the first axis. An angular blade drive train 61 is directly connected between a motor 43 and the blade holder. The angular blade drive permits the blade axis of reciprocation 55 to be adjusted in a plane parallel to the saw sidewalls 177. Drive train 61 consists solely of a rotary section 63 and a reciprocating section 65. The rotary section is connected directly between the motor and the reciprocating section. The reciprocating section is connected directly to the blade holder. According to a second aspect of the invention, a reciprocating saw 21,154 comprises a housing 23, a drive train 61, a blade holder 49, and a connector 59. Blade holder 49 is rotatably mounted in connector 59 for rotation about an axis 53 parallel to and spaced from an axis 55 of reciprocation of output bar 57.

  • Patent number: 5919585
Abstract: A battery pack 13 comprises an elongated cylindrical, metal casing 35, a plurality of cells 41, 43 in casing 35 and three coaxial pack terminals 46, 54, 61. For enhanced convenience, pack terminals 46, 54, 61 are electrically connectable in a cordless device 11 regardless of the angular orientation of the pack 13 about casing axis 33. To reduce cost and increase durability, pack 13 has no welded connections and will permit high current discharge rates. Cells 41, 43 are electrically connected but are mechanically disconnected. A spring 73 engages cell 41 and biases cells 41, 43 tightly together in compression to form good, low resistance electrical contact between cells 41, 43, casing base cap 45 and top 53. To provide a pack with two output voltages, the third pack terminal 61 has a polarity (relative to first pack terminal 46) the same as second pack terminal 54 and is electrically connected to the cell can terminal 43b of forward cell 43, thereby electrically by-passing cell 43.

  • Patent number: 5216877
Abstract: In a control system for a turbine engine having a variable geometry air compressor, a valve arrangement responsive to a first operational pressure differential created between a discharge fluid pressure produced by the air compressor and an environmental fluid pressure for controlling the communication of a first fluid pressure to an actuator assembly which responds to a second operational pressure differential created across a piston between the first fluid pressure and a second fluid pressure produced through a modification of the discharge fluid pressure. The second fluid pressure being developed by compressor discharge fluid pressure flowing from a blind bore in a shaft through a variable opening to one side if the piston while at the same time fluid pressure flows through a restriction to the surrounding environment.

  • Patent number: 5133181
Abstract: A fuel management system (34) for a turbine engine having a metering valve (50) controlled by the input of an electronic computer (36) to a resolver (48). A head pressure sensor (67) responds to pressure differential across the fuel metering valve (50) to control a bypass valve (80) which allows a portion of the fuel available from a fuel supply conduit (58) to return to a fuel reservoir (28). A reference pressure controlled head bypass valve (80) utilizing pressures above (P.sub.1) and below (P.sub.2) a metering valve (50) as reference pressures during normal operation and a non-controlled reference pressure during shut-off to maintain a minimum fuel pressure required for control purposes during shut-off. The non-controlled pressure reference may be obtained as a pressure drop across a series (typically a pair) of small orifices or apertures. The non-controlled reference pressure is typically achieved as the intermediate pressure between a regulated (pcb) body pressure and the inlet fuel supply pressure (P.

  • Patent number: 5071296
Abstract: A chuck key clip 11 has a pair of spaced parallel sidewalls 17, 19 connected by a web 21. A cord receiving channel 23 and a key handle receiving channel 61 are formed by the sidewalls 17, 19 and web 21. The key channel may have an inwardly converging handle clamp 67 and an inwardly converging key shank clamp 71 to securely and detachably retain the key 13 in the clip. For comfort and ease of use, thumb depressions 107, 109 may be formed in the outer surface of sidewalls 17, 19. Web 21 may contain openings 99, 101 opposite to a cord clamping means 27 formed in the cord channel 23. Openings 99, 101 result from the method for molding the clip in a mold movable only in a single direction (i.e. without side movement). The formation of inwardly converging clamps 27, 67 in the parallel cord and key channels 23, 61 in a mold 131 without side movement simplifies the manufacturing process and contributes to the low cost of clip 11.
