  • Patent number: 6270912
Abstract: An oriented multi-layer film comprised of a core layer comprising a metallocene-catalyzed substantially isotactic propylene polymer, a first additional layer on a side of the core layer, and a second additional layer on a side of the core layer which side is opposite to the side having the first additional layer. In one embodiment of the invention, the core layer includes a polymerized alicyclic hydrocarbon such as polyterpene.

  • Patent number: 6242084
Abstract: The invention is directed to an oriented multi-layer film which comprises a voided layer and at least one non-voided layer on at least one surface of the voided layer. In one embodiment, the voided layer comprises a Ziegler-Natta or metallocene-catalyzed substantially isotactic propylene polymer in a polymer matrix with a cavitation initiator. In a second embodiment, the non-voided layer comprises a Ziegler-Natta or metallocene-catalyzed substantially isotactic polypropylene polymer. In a third embodiment, both the voided core layer and at least one non-voided layer comprise a metallocene-catalyzed substantially isotactic polypropylene polymer.

  • Patent number: 6231975
Abstract: A sealable film comprises: (a) an inner layer comprising an olefin polymer; (b) a sealing layer; and (c) a separable layer positioned between the inner layer and the sealing layer, the separable layer comprising (1) ethylene-propylene block copolymer or (2) a blend of polyethylene and another olefin which is incompatible with the polyethylene, specifically either (i) polypropylene homopolymer or (ii) ethylene-propylene block copolymer. Methods of making the sealable film are described.

  • Patent number: 6159612
Abstract: An oriented multi-layer film comprises:(a) at least one layer comprising an olefin polymer, for example, isotactic polypropylene; and(b) a barrier layer adjacent the at least one layer of (a), comprising a syndiotactic polypropylene which preferably possesses an isotacticity of less than 25%, more preferably less than 15%, in particular less than 6%, and moisture and oxygen permeability reducing amounts of wax.

  • Patent number: 6113996
Abstract: A uniaxially heat-shrinkable, biaxially oriented, multilayer film having a polypropylene-containing core layer comprising at least 70 wt. % of said multilayer film and optionally, at least one polyolefin-containing skin layer adjacent said core layer, is prepared by biaxially orienting a coextrudate and therefore orienting said coextrudate by stretching 10 to 40 % in the machine direction. The core layer contains isotactic polypropylene and a sufficient amount of syndiotactic polypropylene to inhibit uniaxial heat shrinkage at temperature below about 50.degree. C. The skin layer can be selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymer, polyethylene, and ethylene-propylene-butylene terpolymer.

  • Patent number: 6048608
Abstract: The present invention relates to an opaque, biaxially oriented polymeric film having a thermoplastic polymer matrix material within which is located a stratum of voids. The voids are formed during orientation by a cavitating agent which is a particle of a cyclic olefinic copolymer. The solid particle is phase-distinct and incompatible with the matrix material.
