  • Patent number: 12226105
Abstract: The present disclosure provides surgical clamps. The clamp has a body with a mouth that opens and closes to permit the body to encircle a bundle of tissue containing a blood vessel which a surgeon wishes to occlude. The clamp also has an articulating arm that rotates on a hinge and passes through apertures of the clamp body. The apertures and/or the articulating arm include ratchet components that permit the surgeon to apply dynamic adjustable tensioning to the tissue and vessel in real time. This dynamic tension permits a surgeon to ensure a specific reduction of blood flow through the vessel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 2023
Date of Patent: February 18, 2025
    Assignee: Institute For Cancer Research

  • Publication number: 20180092797
Abstract: A portable, mechanical compression device for preventing or treating deep vein thrombosis and extremity edema is provided herein. The device includes a frame that is placed in whole or in part around a limb, and a plurality of compression units that compress the limb, thereby mechanically facilitating circulation. A user (e.g., wearer or helper) moves the device along the limb, thereby moving the point of compression along the limb in the direction of the movement of the device, facilitating blood flow through the limb, thereby lessening the chance of a clot formation within the deep veins of the limb and decreasing stasis of fluid or blood in the limb.

  • Publication number: 20120084011
Abstract: Methods for managing the care of a cancer patient are provided. Generally, the methods comprise calculating a risk score from characteristics obtained from a cancer patient with a plurality of nomograms comprising the characteristics and a plurality of competing risk factors, using a program to calculate risk scores; determining the patient's prognosis based on the risk score; and treating the patient with a regimen capable of improving the prognosis of a cancer patient having substantially the same risk score. Systems and computer readable media for practicing the methods are also provided.
