  • Publication number: 20080089058
Abstract: A modular flashlight assembly is provided that includes an integrated interface to facilitate mounting of the flashlight to a variety of different equipment. The flashlight mounting system includes a pattern of engagement surfaces on an exterior surface of the flashlight housing and a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is configured to be mounted onto the desired substrate and includes clamping members that releasably engage the engagement surfaces on the flashlight housing. In this manner, the engagement surfaces on the flashlight housing provide a surface by which the flashlight can be clamped without the need for a band that extends entirely around the barrel of the flashlight. Further, by releasably clamping the flashlight into a modular system, the flashlight can easily mounted onto any variety of different modular interface systems such as the interface rail that is integrated onto modern type firearms.

  • Publication number: 20070230165
Abstract: A combination housing that includes a unique segregated compartment to hold a standard, popular sized pocketknife. The housing is constructed to slideably receive a standard pocket type knife. The housing has a channel molded into its wall with the top of the channel being open, allowing the side of the pocketknife to be visible when received in the channel on the housing. This allows the user to verify that the knife is in place. At the rear of the housing is a small closure device that is pivotally mounted to the rear of the housing. The closure device pivots into place flush with the bottom of the housing to retain the pocketknife once it is fully inserted into the channel in the housing.

  • Publication number: 20060245184
Abstract: An apeture mechanism that utilizes translucent, transparent or colored blades to modify the output beam of a lighting device is provided. A conventional apeture mechanism having replacement blades formed of a diffusion screen provides a control assembly that, when placed in front of the output beam of a lighting device, allows the user to selectively control the beam between a spot and a flood pattern. Further, the blades may be formed of translucent or transparent colored filter material to alter the color of the output beam. The apeture mechanism may be incorporated into compact lighting devices such as flashlights, architectural lighting devices or other accessories for use in conjunction with these lighting devices.

  • Publication number: 20060176685
Abstract: An improved miniature flashlight construction including a housing that is formed to include an upper shell and a lower shell. An interior module is positioned within the housing and includes a circuit board, control circuitry, a switch contact and a modular socket into which a light emitting diode (LED) is received. A flexible actuator element is formed within the upper shell of the housing disposed adjacent the switch contact on the interior module for engaging the switch contact when the actuator is depressed. By providing a socket for receiving the LED, the interior module can be formed as a single modular part for use in a miniature flashlight having any colored LED. Further, the interior module may include storage memory for storing operation instructions making the flashlight multifunctional.

  • Publication number: 20060145180
Abstract: The present invention provides a lighting head assembly that incorporates a high intensity LED package into an integral assembly including a heat sink and circuit board for further incorporation into other useful lighting devices. The present invention primarily includes a heat sink member that also serves as a mounting die and a reflector cup into which the LED package is mounted. The circuit board is placed behind the reflector cup and includes riser members that extend through holes in the rear wall of the reflector cup to facilitate electrical connections to the leads of the LED. This particular means for assembly allows the reflector cup and circuit board to cooperate to retain the LED package, provide electrical and control connections, provide integral heat sink capacity and includes an integrated reflector cup.

  • Patent number: 7023763
Abstract: An assembly is provided that allows construction of a watch that includes multifunctional illumination options. The assembly of the present invention provides a means for illuminating the watch face, a high intensity flashlight and a watch locator beacon. The assembly overcomes the drawbacks associated with filament lamps by using LED lamps that provide greater brightness with less power consumption. Further, the present invention relies on a unique feature of LED's, whereby they are only illuminated by DC power at the right polarity to provide a compact assembly that utilized a minimum amount of space.

  • Patent number: 6964510
Abstract: A novel construction for a flashlight including a multifunctional rotary switching device is provided. The body of the switch includes an array of magnetic field effect sensors arranged on a base switch component such as a printed circuit board switching substrate. Each of the sensors is connected via circuit traces with a central logic chip also mounted on the circuit board. At least one magnet is installed into a rotatable actuator in proximity to the surface of the sensors whereby the magnetic field generated by the magnet causes the corresponding sensors to switch to an open position when at least one magnet is in their proximity. In this position, the logic chip can detect which of the sensors are open and execute a set of pre-programmed instructions corresponding to the sequence of open sensors.

  • Publication number: 20050231940
Abstract: A miniature flashlight consists of a housing, a light emitting diode (LED), a pair of batteries, and a flexible cover and a contact clip that acts as a switch. The LED has a head portion and two contact arms. One of the contact arms is shorter than the other and is displaced at a slight angle relative to the longer contact arm. The LED is received in a seat formed in the housing with the head portion of the diode received in an aperture in the side wall of the housing. The longer contact arm is captured in a channel formed in the bottom wall. The shorter contact arm rests on a shoulder that forms part of the LED seat. A pair of coin cell batteries are received within another seat formed in housing. The lower battery sits on top of the longer contact arm captured in the channel of the bottom wall. A resilient plastic cover is assembled with the housing to maintain the diode and the batteries within the housing.

  • Publication number: 20050201100
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical lens for coupling the light output from a high intensity light source, such as an LED, with a light conduit. The optical lens captures, homogenizes and transmits substantially all of the light emitted the light source to a point of convergence that is centrally located on the output face of the optical lens. The present invention transmits upwards of 85% of the light emitted by the light source and produces a uniformly illuminated circular focal point that is easily discharged into the terminal end of an optical conduit such as an optical fiber of light pipe. Optionally the lens may be formed to include structure that serves to receive and retain the terminal end of the optical conduit.
