Each of the base unit (1) and the safety device (4) has a transmitter and/or receiver (2, 5) adapted to exchange and process wireless command signals with each other. The safety device (4) has an actuating circuit (6) which is controlled by the transmitter and/or receiver (5) of the safety device (4) and is adapted to actuate a locking mechanism (8), wherein in the locking mechanism is operable to prevent a firearm from firing.
