  • Patent number: 11045310
Abstract: A male form is configured as an attachment element for an injector for implanting an intraocular lens in an eye. The male form includes an elongate carrier part and a front part that is arranged at one end of the elongate carrier part. The front part has a front side and is made of an elastically deformable material, the deformable material being compressible at least in the direction of a longitudinal axis (A) of the male form. The front side includes a first peripheral side, an opposite second peripheral side, and at least one elongate indentation, which is formed in the front part and which is open at the front side. The indentation extends between the two peripheral sides and opens out at the peripheral sides. An injector for implanting an intraocular lens having the male form is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10881505
Abstract: An ophthalmosurgical injector system includes an injector, which has a handpiece, a plunger, and a dispensing device; an intraocular lens, which has an optic body and two C-shaped haptic arms protruding therefrom; and a cartridge, in which the intraocular lens is received. The dispensing device has an inlet opening at the proximal end and an outlet opening at the distal end. When the plunger is moved forward, the intraocular lens is conveyed from the cartridge through the inlet opening to the outlet opening of the dispensing device. When the intraocular lens is held in the cartridge in a compressed and preloaded state, a subregion of each of the haptic arms bears on and covers the optic body. In a plan view, the optic body of the preloaded intraocular lens has a circular surface area with a diameter of at least 4.0 mm that is not covered by the haptic arms.

  • Publication number: 20100076799
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for predicting rare events, such as hospitalization events. A set of data records, each containing multiple attributes with one or more values (which may include an “unknown” value), may represent a root node of a decision tree. This root node may be partitioned based on one of the attributes, such that the concentration (e.g., “purity”) of a relevant outcome (e.g., the rare event) is increased in one node and decreased in another. This process may be repeated until a decision tree with sufficiently pure leaf nodes is created. This “purified” decision tree may then be used to predict one or more rare events.

  • Publication number: 20060238702
Abstract: An ophthalmic device is provided for a patient that has a basic prescription for distant vision, the ophthalmic device including a primary optic and a supplemental optic. The primary optic is configured for placement in the eye and has a base optical power configured to substantially provide the basic prescription. The supplemental optic has an optical power that is less than the optical power of the primary optic and is configured to provide, in combination with the primary optic, a combined optical power that provides the basic prescription of the patient. In addition, at least one surface of the primary optic is configured to deform in response to an ocular force so as to modify the combined optical power by at least 1 Diopter. The ophthalmic device may further include a movement assembly operably coupled to the primary optic that is structured to cooperate with the eye to effect accommodating deformation of the primary optic in response to an ocular force produced by the eye.

  • Patent number: 7105473
Abstract: Multi-purpose solutions for contact lens care provide substantial lens wearer/user comfort and/or acceptability, with minimal, if any, corneal epithelial punctate fluorescein staining. Such solutions may include an aqueous liquid medium; an antimicrobial component comprising polyquarternium-1 and a hexamethylene biguanide polymer having a number average molecular weight in the range of from about 4,000 to about 45,000; a surfactant component, preferably a poly(oxyethylene)-poly(oxypropylene) block copolymer surfactant, in an effective amount; a buffer component in an effective amount; a viscosity-inducing component, preferably selected from cellulosic derivatives, in an effective amount; and a tonicity component in an effective amount. Such solutions have substantial performance, comfort and acceptability benefits, which, ultimately, lead to ocular health advantages and avoidance of problems caused by contact lens wear.

  • Publication number: 20060111776
Abstract: Intraocular lens combinations are provided which include an axially movable primary intraocular lens (IOL) and a substantially fixed compensating IOL. In certain embodiments, the compensating IOL has no corrective power and serves only to inhibit or reduce the risk of posterior capsular opacification (PCO). In other embodiments, the primary IOL has higher corrective power than required by the patient's prescription in order to amplify the accommodation obtained from axial movement, and the compensating IOL has negative corrective power to compensate for the excessive diopter value of the primary IOL. In a preferred method, the primary IOL is implanted in the capsular bag of an eye, and centered about the optical axis. The compensating IOL is then implanted in the capsular bag, sulcus, or anterior chamber and axially aligned with the primary IOL.

  • Patent number: 6797004
Abstract: An intraocular lens system including one or more intraocular lenses (IOL) and a peripheral holder. The peripheral holder is configured to receive and retain the distal end of a fixation member of the IOL and provide a dynamic interface between the natural capsular bag and fixation member. The holder is preferably annular and flexible and transmits movement of the capsular bag from the surrounding ciliary muscles to the IOL. In this manner, a circumferential surface contact with the capsular bag is provided and accommodation of the IOL is improved. If two IOLs are received in the holder, a spacer may be provided to insure consistent spacing between the IOLs. Alternatively, an IOL system may include two IOLs and a spacer, without the holder. The holder desirably includes a sharp exterior corner to inhibit cell growth and posterior capsular opacification.

  • Patent number: 6733526
Abstract: A partially hydrated lens is provided for implantation into a cornea. The partially hydrated lens has a water content less than the water content of the cornea, resulting in an osmotic pressure differential between the lens and the cornea which improves adhesion between the lens and the corneal tissue. It also causes the lens to expand and flatten when implanted, and to [naturally center itself while flattening.] In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the lens is maintained in its partially hydrated state by storage in a hypertonic hydration medium.
