  • Publication number: 20180215475
Abstract: Systems and methods for integrated power and thermal management in a turbine-powered aircraft are provided. The systems may include rotationally-independent first and second auxiliary power unit shafts, a power turbine, a first compressor, a second compressor, a cooling turbine, and an electrical motor-generator. The power turbine may be rotatably disposed on the first auxiliary power unit shaft. The first compressor may be rotatably disposed on the first auxiliary power unit shaft. The second compressor may be rotatably disposed on the second auxiliary power unit shaft. The cooling turbine may be rotatably disposed on the second auxiliary power unit shaft. The electrical motor-generator may disposed on the first auxiliary power unit shaft to alternatively supply a motive force input to the first auxiliary power unit shaft and an electrical power output to the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 7131273
Abstract: A gas turbine engine combustor carburetor includes forward and aft air swirlers. The aft swirler has a septum defining a primary venturi and a plurality of circumferentially spaced aft swirl vanes. The forward swirler has a plurality of circumferentially spaced forward swirl vanes extending forwardly from a flat annular radial flange of the forward swirler, an annular wall extending forwardly from a forward face of the septum and radially bounding an annular recess on the forward face, and the radial flange slidably retained within the annular recess and against the septum by a flat retainer attached to the annular wall of the septum. The flat retainer may be produced by stamping. An anti-rotation tab on the radial flange of the forward swirler extends radially through a corresponding notch in the annular wall.

  • Publication number: 20020178726
Abstract: A combustor for a gas turbine engine includes outer and inner liners defining a combustion chamber and an igniter mounted to the outer liner. A dome plate is disposed between the outer and inner liners and has a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings formed therein. A fuel-air mixer is disposed in each one of the openings; each fuel-air mixer includes a swirler mounted in the corresponding opening and a fuel nozzle received in the corresponding swirler. Two adjacent ones of the swirlers are low air flow swirlers in general circumferential alignment with the igniter and the rest of the swirlers are higher air flow swirlers. Each one of the fuel nozzles provides a similar amount of fuel so that the two fuel-air mixers having low air flow swirlers produce a local region of increased fuel-to-air ratio in the vicinity of the igniter.
