  • Publication number: 20110291317
Abstract: Moldable, curable, reinforcing particle-filled compositions and methods for making the compositions are provided. The moldable compositions are characterized by high loadings of reinforcing filler particles in a thermosetting matrix and, as such, can be strong, yet lightweight. The moldable compositions can be formed into shaped cores and cured to provide a variety of articles. Optionally, a layer of reinforcing material can be applied over the shaped cores to finish and strengthen the final article.

  • Patent number: 7723421
Abstract: A method of preparing thickened compositions which can be molded under low pressures and temperatures to provide thermoset articles, wherein liquid reactive components are slowly absorbed in solid thermoplastic elastomer thickeners such as thermoplastic ionomers and acrylic block copolymers. The thickener delays the viscosity build, allowing fiber reinforcement and other fillers to be incorporated, if desired, before molding. The molding composition is well suited for use in dentistry and other fields where small amounts or molding composition are used occasionally.

  • Patent number: 7183334
Abstract: A method of preparing fiber sheet molding compounds with a fabric of continuous fiber reinforcement that can be molded under low pressures and temperatures to provide thermoset articles, wherein liquid reactive components are slowly absorbed in solid acrylic resin. The acrylic resin functions as a thickener which delays the viscosity build allowing the fabric of continuous fiber reinforcement to be incorporated before molding.

  • Patent number: 6433037
Abstract: A method of preparing fiber reinforced acrylic thickened compositions which can be molded under low pressures and temperatures to provide thermoset articles, wherein liquid reactive components are slowly absorbed in high molecular weight solid acrylic resin in the form of large particles. The acrylic resin functions as a thickener which delays the viscosity build allowing fiber reinforcement to be incorporated before molding. The molding composition is well suited for use in dentistry and other fields where small amounts or molding composition are used occasionally.

  • Patent number: 5747553
Abstract: A fiber reinforced acrylic molding composition is provided which can be molded under low pressures and temperatures to provide thermoset articles. The molding composition can be prepared before use and is shelf stable. The molding composition contains liquid reactive components and a high molecular weight solid acrylic resin which is amorphous and thermoplastic and in the form of large particles. These features enable the solid acrylic resin to slowly absorb the liquid reactive component. The acrylic resin functions as a thickener which delays the viscosity build allowing fiber reinforcement to be incorporated before molding. The molding composition is well suited for use in dentistry and other fields where small amounts or molding composition are used occasionally.
