Patent number: 8371507Abstract: A method of selectively generating one or more scan lines from a multi-scan line scanner involves measuring the pulse widths of the pulses in a signal output of a motor driving the polygon mirror of the scanner wherein the signal relates to the position of the polygon's mirror facets. By measuring and distinguishing each of the pulses in the signal, the illumination of the scan beam can be synchronized with the rotation of the polygon mirror to only generate a desired number of scan line patterns that is less than the full complement of the scan line patterns capable of being generated by the multi-scan line scanner.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2007Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: Metrologic Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Haggerty, Robert H. Brady

Patent number: 7237708Abstract: An apparatus and system are disclosed for indicating relative positions of elements in a surgical apparatus. The indicating elements can include electrical circuitry that provides means for activating visual, audible or tactile indicators, thereby alerting the user that an event has occured with respect to the instrument.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1996Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: United States Surgical Corp.Inventors: Thomas D. Guy, Richard N. Granger, Robert H. Brady, John Webster, James R. Pratt, Corbett W. Stone

Patent number: 6122353Abstract: A method and apparatus for verifying that a CAS (Customer Premises Equipment Alerting Signal) detect signal, which indicates the presence of a CAS on a transmission channel, is a valid detect signal, includes structure and process steps for suppressing a signal originating at a local telephone in response to the CAS detect signal. A determination is made whether the CAS detect signal remains in a predetermined condition at a predetermined time after the local telephone signal is suppressed. A validity signal is output when the CAS detect signal remains in the predetermined condition at the predetermined time. False detections are thereby minimized by ignoring detections caused by a signal originating at the local telephone.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1997Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Cidco IncorporatedInventors: Robert H. Brady, David Zielski, William L. Nutter, Alexander J. Marra

Patent number: 5510726Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for determining angular alignment between a lamination stack, a commutator, and coil windings of an armature for an electric motor. The apparatus has a body with an aperture for extending about the commutator, and a post for fitting into the lamination stack to locate an indicator slot and graphic symbols relative to the lamination stack for visually comparing alignment between the lamination stack, the commutator, and the coil windings.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1993Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Assignee: R. E. Phelon Co., Inc.Inventor: Robert H. Brady

Patent number: 5497934Abstract: An apparatus and system are disclosed for indicating relative positions of elements in a surgical apparatus. The indicating elements can include electrical circuitry that activates visual, audible or tactile indicators, thereby alerting the user that an event has occurred with respect to the instrument. In a circular anastomosis device, the indicator is preferably positioned at a proximal end of the device.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1993Date of Patent: March 12, 1996Assignee: United States Surgical CorporationInventors: Robert H. Brady, Philip D. Calabrese, Timothy O. Van Leeuwen

Patent number: 5311567Abstract: An identification labeling unit for applying identifying data to a sheet of X-ray film enclosed in a film cassette has data input means and a cassette insertion slot extending into the interior of its housing; a data display device, such as a vacuum fluorescent data display screen, defines an object plane inside the housing, and an optical system delivers an image of the data display screen focussed at an image plane within the cavity slot. When the X-ray film-enclosing cassette is fully inserted into the insertion slot, with a corner window hatchcover on the cassette being automatically opened by the cassette's insertion into the cavity slot, the corner of the X-ray film receives the focussed labeling data image from the optical system.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1993Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Lorad CorporationInventors: Anthony J. Pellegrino, Robert H. Brady, David D. Camarra

Patent number: 4415879Abstract: A combination directional gyro and navigation radio indicator instrument for use in aircraft which provides a display of compass card, selected course pointer, course deviation indicator, to-from indicator, and glide slope indicator in a unique presentation. The compass card is directly driven by the directional gyro, and the selected course pointer normally rotates with the compass card when it rotates, but can be de-clutched for selection of a new course. The selected course signal is obtained by attenuating, amplifying, and phase shifting the reference signal from a navigation radio such that it can be sent to the rotor of a control transformer which is geared to the compass card. The resulting stator signal is then amplified and sent to the rotor of a differential resolver which is geared to the course selector pointer.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1981Date of Patent: November 15, 1983Assignee: Aviation Instrument Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Robert H. Brady, Michael L. Beaumont, Arthur C. Pettis
