  • Patent number: 4659008
Abstract: A tampering-proof container for storing currency for use in conjunction with an automated teller machine (ATM). The currency door of the container through which the currency passes when the container is mounted on an ATM is moved positively between the open and closed positions when on the ATM. An indicator wheel within the container gives an indication or count of the number of times the currency door has been opened and closed to provide a check on potential sophisticated pilfering. When the count on the indicator wheel reaches a programmed predetermined amount, the currency door is locked in a closed position with first and second locking linkage inside the container locking the currency door in the closed position. A seal on a loading door on the container must be broken to gain access to the inside of the container to unlock the first and second locking linkage and to reset the indicator wheel.

  • Patent number: 4656662
Abstract: A method and apparatus for personal identification employ the combination of a CRT and a light pen for the generation of a signature or other identification indicia by movement of the light pen on the CRT screen. Positional information is captured from the screen by the light pen and is compressed and collected to form a signature or other indicia representation which can be stored and subsequently used as a reference for identification purposes. High resolution means are employed to provide precise positional data. If desired, a visible path may be generated on the CRT screen representing the movement of the light pen as the signature or other indicia is produced. Also, if desired, a signature or other identifying indicia may be produced at a location remote from the CRT on a suitable record medium, such as a one-time carbon, and later traced on the CRT screen by the light pen.

  • Patent number: 4655391
Abstract: A currency cassette for an automated teller machine is provided with a counter for maintaining a count of the number of times that a currency access door of said cassette has been opened, and is further provided with an interrupt mechanism for prohibiting said count from exceeding a predetermined amount and returning to a zero count. Reset mechanism is provided for disabling the interrupt mechanism to permit the counter to be reset to zero when the cassette is returned from the automated teller machine to a central location for reloading with currency when the currency contained in the currency cassette has been depleted by dispensing through the automated teller machine.

  • Patent number: 4645153
Abstract: A tilt and swivel apparatus supports a structure such as a CRT display device above a stable base. Separate tilt and swivel mechanisms are provided to improve the stability of the apparatus. Stop elements limit the extent of tilting and rotation which is permitted. An internal passage is provided for cable connections to the supported structure.

  • Patent number: 4638993
Abstract: A position controller for a stacker wheel in a media dispensing apparatus including a stacker wheel rotatably mounted in said apparatus with the stacker wheel having compartments located around the periphery thereof, with each compartment having spaced ends providing an entrance area to the associated one of the compartments. A transport mechanism is used for transporting media in spaced relationship along a path leading to a loading area with regard to the stacker wheel. A detector is used for detecting the presence of a leading edge of one of said media in the path at a predetermined point from the loading area and also for generating a first signal in response thereto. A slotted disc and detector are used for determining the rotational position of each compartment of the stacker wheel with regard to the loading area to produce a second signal indicative of that position.

  • Patent number: 4617457
Abstract: A document cashing system including a host computer, a plurality of ATMs, and a teller station including a display and keyboard including function keys. Each ATM includes an imager for presenting an image of a check received at the machine to the display at the teller station. The image along with other check data and data about the drawer and drawee of the check are displayed to the teller at the teller station who decides whether to accept or not accept the check for cashing by actuating an appropriate function key on the keyboard. A MICR printer within each ATM prints the monetary amount of the check on the associated check for accepted checks when the associated cash is dispensed to the customer by the ATM.

  • Patent number: 4580040
Abstract: A system of cashing checks which utilizes a customer-operated, automatic teller machine (ATM) in cooperation with a teller at a teller station. A document transport within the ATM is used to deliver the check and identification media to the teller. Data entered by the customer and MICR data read from the check are used to access stored data which is displayed at the teller station to assist the teller in evaluating the customer and the negotiability of the check. Upon a satisfactory evaluation, the teller actuates a function key at the teller station which enables the ATM to dispense the currency to the customer.

  • Patent number: 4578009
Abstract: A sheet dispenser in which sheets are delivered from cassettes to a collector and held thereon. The collector is mounted on a moveable support, and the collector and bills thereon are moved to either left or right delivery areas of the terminal in response to a request entered on an input terminal. Closures normally close the left and right delivery areas; however, these closures are opened to permit the sheets held on the collector to extend out of the dispenser to be grasped by an operator.

  • Patent number: 4529118
Abstract: A tampering-proof container or cassette for receiving and storing items like "purged" currency bills or bank cards in association with an automated teller machine (ATM). When a "double bill" is detected from a cash dispenser in an ATM, for example, the double bill is deposited in a purge bin or cassette inside the ATM instead of being delivered to a customer as part of a routine cash dispensing transaction. The cassette has an indicator wheel therein which gives an indication of the number of times an associated, bill-receiving door is opened and closed to provide a check on potential sophisticated pilfering of bills from the cassette. A seal on a second door of the cassette must be broken to gain access to resetting levers (inside the cassette) which reset and program the indicator wheel and enable the bill receiving door to be opened. Teeth adjacent to the bill-receiving door also cooperate with the door also minimize pilfering.

  • Patent number: 4421824
Abstract: A process for reconditioning used currency includes the steps of applying a stiffening compound thereto, squeezing the excess from the currency, and drying the currency. Apparatus for performing this process includes gripping and transporting mechanism for transporting the currency to various stations for performing the necessary steps. Arrangements are included for repeating the application, squeezing and drying steps to recondition the portion of the currency originally blocked from treatment by the gripping mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4398711
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring the performance of a currency dispenser by detecting the displacement of a roller caused by the thickness of a record member. This displacement is measured by the movement of a graded density translucent member between the photodiode and sensor of a detector. Electronic circuitry associated with the detector indicates the presence of a record member between the rollers, and also the presence of multiple record members. The fabrication of the member allows the circuitry to detect only the displacement from the static position of the rollers, eliminating the necessity for adjustment due to wear, temperature, and other mechanical factors.

  • Patent number: 4168058
Abstract: A record member feeding device is disclosed for feeding record members from a stack, located in a hopper having spaced-apart surfaces positioned at one end thereof defining an opening through which the record members may be fed. A vacuum-operated, solenoid-control picking member grasps one of the record members and shifts it through the opening to a position in which it is contacted by projections on a rotatable feeding element and is moved thereby into engagement with counter-rotating take away rollers which further transport it to its desired destination.

  • Patent number: 4143357
Abstract: A transducing device converts to representative electrical signals those force variations which are produced by the act of a person writing a signature. In the device, a signature writing surface is provided, and is part of an arm attached by resilient means to a support member which in turn is secured to a base. A magnetic core is connected to the underside of the signature writing surface and coacts with a plurality of coils mounted on the base to provide a motion transducer which, with associated circuitry, generates an electrical signal which varies in accordance with the varying forces applied to the signature writing surface as a signature is written thereon. Stop rods secured to the base limit the extent of travel in one direction of the signature writing surface.
