  • Patent number: 5548989
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a form wound stator coil from a bobbin has means for clamping the straight portions of the bobbin to define the straight portions of the each leg of the coil. It also has means for bending the bobbin to predetermined radii to form arms extending from the straight portions of each leg of the coil to each nose of the coil. Means are provided for bending each arm to a predetermined radius. Means are further provided for bending the nose portions to a predetermined angle. Means for providing a drop to the arm portions of the coil relative to the stator bore are also provided. Means for forming the leads of the bobbin to a predetermined configuration are also provided. Hydraulic means for powering the apparatus and a system for controlling the hydraulic means are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 18, 1994
Date of Patent: August 27, 1996
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Thomas E. Howe, David M. Taccone, Robert H. Hartmann

  • Patent number: 5442953
Abstract: A dynamic profiling system for measuring a profile of an outer surface of a moving motor component such as a commutator includes a movable probe assembly having a profile detecting probe and a probe cooling system for circulating a cooling liquid about the probe. The probe cooling system maintains the cooling liquid at a fixed temperature during circulation of the liquid. The detecting probe obtains profile measurement data from the outer surface of the rotating motor component when the motor component is at ambient and hot temperatures. Additionally data is collected while the commutator is rotating up to 4000 revolutions per minute. The system further includes a controller, an analog to digital converter for receiving and converting the data, and a monitor for displaying information processed by the controller.

  • Patent number: 4070750
Abstract: A tieless bracing arrangement is provided for rigidly supporting the winding end turns of a dynamoelectric machine in relatively rigid operating position. The bracing arrangement is characterized by including an expandable annulus having a spreader that is operable in conjunction with a plurality of slidably mounted dowels to selectively hold the annulus open while it is positioned adjacent to the machine end turns and then to compress the annulus tightly against the end turns to secure them in operating position. A novel method is also disclosed for applying the tieless bracing to a dynamoelectric machine.
