  • Publication number: 20230255557
Abstract: An audiometric testing headband includes a strap, an anchor, an adult male sizing point, an adult female sizing point, a child sizing point, and an infant sizing point. The anchor is a first type of fastener on a first end of the strap. The sizing points are on the strap and a second type of fastener that mates with the anchor. The adult male sizing point is on a second end of the strap a first distance from the anchor. The adult female sizing point is a second distance from anchor. The child sizing point is a third distance from the anchor. The infant sizing point is a fourth distance from the anchor. Each distance is between a center of the anchor and a center of each respective sizing point.

  • Publication number: 20230032147
Abstract: A system and method for testing hearing of a subject in an environment in which ambient noise is present, which identifies threshold levels that require retesting due to presence of masking or distraction created by ambient noise during pure tone audiometry. An acoustic sensor monitors ambient noise in the vicinity of the subject during pure tone audiometry while pure tone stimuli are presented.

  • Patent number: 8577050
Abstract: Embodiments provide improved bone conduction calibration. In one embodiment a bone conduction vibrator coupling member is provided with opposing surfaces configured to contact the housing of an earphone coupler about the opening of the housing and support the housing of a bone conduction vibrator above the opening of the earphone coupler housing. The coupling member has an inner wall defining an aperture extending through the coupling member that is configured to receive the vibrating member of the bone conduction vibrator and provide the vibrating member with access to the cavity of the earphone coupler. A calibration system includes a bone conduction vibrator coupling member positioned upon an earphone coupler. Methods for calibrating a bone conduction vibrator using such a calibration system are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20120130271
Abstract: A kit for conducting a self-administered hearing test allows a test subject to generate calibrated pure tone stimuli during a hearing test without calibrating the testing system beforehand. Some hearing kits include a sound module and headphones configured to couple together and further couple with a processor-driven device, such as a computer. Some kits also include a computer-readable storage medium with executable instructions for programming a computer to perform the hearing test, including generating calibrated pure tone stimuli without calibration by the user. Methods and systems for conducting calibrated, self-administered hearing tests are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8075494
Abstract: An audiogram classification system is provided. The classification system includes categories for configuration, severity, site of lesion and/or symmetry of an audiogram. A set of rules can be provided for selecting the categories, wherein the set of rules ignore one or more local irregularities on an audiogram and have been validated to maximize agreement with judges.

  • Publication number: 20110009770
Abstract: An audiometric testing device is provided including a housing having one or more integral calibration couplers adapted to couple with a testing transducer. The testing device also includes a tone generator that generates tones of various frequencies and intensities during a hearing test. A calibration transducer is positioned proximate the coupler and converts an output of the testing transducer into a calibration signal. The calibration signal is measured by a signal measurement module within the housing, which generates a calibration measurement that can then be used to correct for undesired intensity level variations produced by the tone generator. Audiometric testing systems and calibration methods are also provided. In some cases a testing and/or calibration of an audiometric testing device is controlled by an external computing device coupled to the testing device.

  • Patent number: 6496585
Abstract: A method of testing hearing automatically selects test ear and test frequencies to produce a diagnostic audiogram providing a plurality of quantitative, examiner-independent measures of test reliability. The method automatically presents appropriate masking noise to a non-test ear. In addition, the method alerts an examiner to thresholds that may be inaccurate due to inappropriate masking or subject inconsistency. A software driven system automatically carries out the method on a test subject.
