The receiver is associated with a circuit for controlling the movement of a table of the machine on which a tool to be ground is supported. The positioning of the table is effected by the interception of the light or sound ray by the teeth of the tool, which causes the receiver to act to stop movement of the table.

    Abstract: A workpiece carrier comprises a circular plate formed with teeth and interchangeably mounted for rotation by an arm longitudinally movable parallel to the plane of the plate. The arm can also rotate about the center of the plate. The arm has at least one pin adjustably fixed relative to the arm and arranged to cooperate alternately with one of the sides of opposite teeth, which side is oblique with respect to the trajectory of the arm. Longitudinal movement of the arm in either direction is effected by hydraulic means, connected with the arm through passage means suitably permitting the rotating of the arm. The longitudinal movement causes the plate to pivot by one step. At the end of the longitudinal travel of the arm, in either direction, the pin is located in the base of the gap between two teeth.

    Abstract: A machine for machining a spiral cutting edge on an elongate workpiece having a rounded head by moving the workpiece relative to a rotating tool comprises a support unit mounted for vertical translational movement and rotation about a vertical axis. The support unit carries a headstock which can be positioned to make the axis of its workpiece-carrying spindle intersect the vertical axis, and a device for helicoidally driving the headstock spindle. The support unit rests on an inclined ramp surrounding the vertical axis and along which the unit can roll to helicoidally move the headstock for spirally machining a cutting edge into the rounded end of the workpiece. Thereafter a spiral cutting edge is machined into the cylindrical shaft of the workpiece, smoothly continuing the rounded, spiral edge.

    Abstract: A universal sharpening, grinding and milling machine comprises a horizontal table having a vertical column mounted for a limited vertical and horizontal movement relative to the table. A tool-carrying head including a shaft carrying tools at both ends and a motor for driving the shaft can be removably mounted on the column in selected angular positions about the axis of a tie-bolt by which the head is mounted, and with either of two opposed faces of the head facing the column. The tools are spaced by different distances from said tie bolt axis, and the axis of the shaft is spaced by different distances from the opposed faces of the head, whereby the possibilities of positioning a tool relative to the table are increased for limited paths of movement between the column and table. An auxiliary table can be provided to facilitate turning about the tool-carrying head, and vertical movement of the column can be provided by a pawl-and-ratchet device controlled by rocking a crank.
