Abstract: An apparatus for feeding an elongate article (6) from a floating vessel and suspending a first portion (6a) of the elongate article in a body of water below the vessel, comprises a cylindrical body (10) rotatably supported on the vessel and driving means (85, 86) for controlling the rotation of the cylindrical body. The cylindrical body (10) further comprises a spooling-on region (P) and a spooling-off region (U) for the elongate article, and a cylindrical contacting surface (18) for interaction with at least a portion of the elongate article (6); the contacting surface (18) being configured so as to support the first portion (6a).

Abstract: A fume hood adapted to be connected to an exhaust system, the fume hood including a cabinet formed with a chamber having a generally flat bottom wall and a sash door mounted at the front end of the chamber for movement in a vertical plane to provide an access opening to the chamber. An air directing member is mounted on the cabinet outside of the plane of movement of the sash door relative to the chamber and it is generally aligned with the bottom wall. The air directing member is formed with an opening positioned to cause a first path of outside air to flow into the chamber along the surface of the bottom wall and being formed with another portion for directing a second path of outside air in a direction generally parallel to and above the first path.

Abstract: A housing of a fume hood includes walls defining a chamber for containment of air therein. One of the walls defines an air passageway opening into the chamber, and a sensor is located outside of the chamber and measures airflow velocity through the air passageway into the fume hood. An elongate, perforated tubular member supported within the chamber includes a first end mounted to the wall of the chamber defining the air passageway in surrounding relation thereto, and a second, distal end substantially closed off from the contaminated air within the chamber whereby airflow through the air passageway into the fume hood generally must pass through a perforation in the tubular member to gain access into the air chamber. The tubular member extends across the width of the chamber and airflow velocity through the air passage is representative of overall air entry velocity into the air chamber.

Abstract: A laboratory fume hood apparatus and method for containing contaminated air within the confines of the fume hood which includes a generally rectangular housing having a vertically movable door for providing an opening to the interior of the fume hood. A contoured air foil on the bottom of the door, an adjacent sill, openings in the door, a bypass slot formed in the housing and an air directing wall portion within the housing combine to provide a flow of outside air downwardly along the interior surface of the door and then directly toward an exhaust plenum located at the rear wall of the interior cabinet.

Abstract: A hinge system for a large or heavy cover member hinged to a container member. A container hinge plate is secured to a side wall of the container member and a cover hinge plate is secured to the side wall of the cover member and rotatably connected to the first hinge means at a hinge pivot means. A gas strut unitary with and pivotably mounted to the container and cover hinge plates raises and lowers the cover member to open and closed positions relative to the container member. The gas strut is pivotably attached to the container and cover hinge plates. A quick connect-disconnect plate removably connected to the cover hinge plate and rotatably connected to the hinge pivot is used to connect or disconnect the container hinge plate from the cover hinge plate and thus to connect or disconnect the cover member to or from the container member and thus connect or disconnect the container member to or from the cover member. The hinge system including the quick connect-disconnect plate can be mounted to a heavy door.
