    Abstract: A method is described for detecting a loopback condition in a trunk. A predetermined bit pattern is inserted in an outgoing channel, and a corresponding incoming channel is continually monitored to detect the presence of the predetermined bit pattern. In this way, premature restoration of faulty circuits can be prevented.
