  • Publication number: 20020045010
Abstract: Materials for coating, coating compositions, methods and articles of manufacture comprising a nanoparticle system or employing the same to impart surface modifying benefits for all types of inanimate hard surfaces are disclosed. In some embodiments, dispersement of nanoparticles in a suitable carrier medium allows for the creation of coating compositions, methods and articles of manufacture that create multi-use benefits to modified hard surfaces. These surface modifications can produce long lasting or semi-permanent multi-use benefits that include at least one of the following improved surface properties: wetting and sheeting, quick drying, uniform drying, soil removal, self-cleaning, anti-spotting, anti-soil deposition, cleaner appearance, enhanced gloss, enhanced color, minor surface defect repair, smoothness, anti-hazing, modification of surface friction, release of actives and transparency, relative to hard surfaces unmodified with such nanoparticle systems.

  • Publication number: 20020022585
Abstract: Detergent compositions, specifically laundry detergent compositions comprising agents, specifically water soluble polymers, for providing cleaning and improved whitening of fabrics contacted by such detergent compositions; and methods and articles employing such detergent compositions are provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to laundry detergent compositions comprising vinyl addition polymers derived from (i) monoethylenically unsaturated C3-8 monocarboxylic acids, C4-8 dicarboxylic acids, their salts and mixtures thereof; (ii) hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing at least one poly(oxyethylene) group; and (iii) hydrophobic ethylenically unsaturated monomers with a water solubility of less than 1%. The laundry detergent compositions of the present invention provide improved whitening benefits compared to conventional laundry detergent compositions.

  • Publication number: 20020004476
Abstract: A detergent composition containing an inexpensive detergent builder in the form of a selected crystalline calcium carbonate is provided. Specifically, the crystalline calcium carbonate has a substantially rhombohedral crystal structure with {1,0,-1,1} crystallographic indices. The crystalline calcium carbonate can be calcite that has been specially modified to a rhombohedral crystal structure with {1,0,-1,1} indices. The crystalline calcium carbonate of the present invention is extremely inexpensive because it can be readily formed from inexpensive naturally occurring calcite, and it performs well even when used at large median particle sizes.
