  • Patent number: 10816466
Abstract: An analysing apparatus comprises a fluid container defining a sample chamber. A sensor having a transparent body with a nanostructured surface is coupled to the fluid container such that the nanostructured surface is exposed to the sample chamber. An excitation and detection apparatus directs a beam of incident polarised electromagnetic radiation onto the reverse face of the body at the Brewster angle, causing no or substantially no reflection of the polarised radiation from the reverse face. The beam of reflected radiation emerges from the reverse face after reflection from the nanostructured surface. The apparatus is simpler and cheaper in comparison with known alternatives that use ATR prisms to create ATR of the light to excite a planar surface.

  • Publication number: 20200316869
Abstract: According to some aspects, a mixer for detection and/or removal of material in an undesired location of an additive fabrication device is provided. For instance, in an inverse stereolithography device, liquid photopolymer may adhere and cure or partially cure to a surface of the additive fabrication device in a location that may interfere with the additive fabrication process and/or cause the additive fabrication process to be unsuccessful. The mixer may be coupled to a movable structure within the additive fabrication device so that the mixer, when coupled to the movable structure, may be moved along at least one axis within the additive fabrication device. The mixer may be configured to detect and/or remove undesired material from a surface within the additive fabrication device.

  • Publication number: 20200249724
Abstract: This is directed to connecting two or more elements using an intermediate element constructed from a material that changes between states. An electronic device can include one or more components constructed by connecting several elements. To provide a connection having a reduced or small size or cross-section and construct a component having high tolerances, a material can be provided in a first state in which it flows between the elements before changing to a second state in which it adheres to the elements and provides a structurally sound connection. For example, a plastic can be molded between the elements. As another example, a composite material can be brazed between the elements. In some cases, internal surfaces of the elements can include one or more features for enhancing a bond between the elements and the material providing the interface between the elements.

  • Patent number: 10717212
Abstract: An automated method for producing a fibrous preform on a tool surface. Such fibrous preform is configured to receive liquid resin via resin infusion. A disposable layer containing a small amount of radiation absorbing material is placed onto the tool surface prior to the automated placement of the first ply of dry fibrous material. Particles of a polymeric or resinous binder are applied on an exposed surface of the disposable layer to enhance adhesion of the first ply. The dry fibrous material may be in the form of elongated, narrow-width fiber tapes or broader fabrics that can be deposited onto the tool surface by an automated placement method. The disposable layer may be in the form of a flexible polymeric film, a release film, a peel ply or a polymer-coated glass cloth.

  • Patent number: 10716640
Abstract: The invention, in one aspect, provides an electronic orientation monitor. The monitor includes an orientation sensing electronics configured for calibration when in a reference orientation and being responsive to manipulation of the monitor so as to calculate first, second and third angles which together represent a difference between a current orientation of the monitor and the reference orientation. The monitor further includes a display being responsive to the first and second angles so as to display a point positioned relative to first and second axes, the display being further responsive to the third angle so as to display a line having a direction relative to the first and second axes such that a combination of the position of the point and the direction of the line is indicative to a user of the difference between the current orientation of the monitor and the reference orientation.

  • Publication number: 20200215989
Abstract: A mount for mounting an accessory, the mount comprising: an attachment member to attach the mount to a support structure; and a mount coupling member configured to have a profile complementary to a corresponding accessory coupling member of an accessory to be coupled to the mount. The mount coupling member comprises a first material operative to couple to a second material of an accessory coupling member through an attractive force between the first material and second material; and wherein the attractive force is of a magnitude to permit slideable movement of the mount coupling member relative to an accessory coupling member while maintaining mechanical contact between the mount and an accessory. The first material comprises a complementary configuration with a second material of an accessory coupling member to permit a greater magnitude of the slideable movement in a first direction compared to a second direction transverse to the first direction.
