  • Patent number: 11444302
Abstract: A reformer assembly includes a vortex tube receiving heated fuel mixed with steam. A catalyst coats the inner wall of the main tube of the vortex tube and a hydrogen-permeable tube is positioned in the middle of the main tube coaxially with the main tube. With this structure the vortex tube outputs primarily Hydrogen from one end and Carbon-based constituents from the other end. In some embodiments a second vortex tube receives the Carbon output of the first vortex tube to establish a water gas shift reactor, producing Hydrogen from the Carbon output of the first vortex tube.

  • Patent number: 9913321
Abstract: A container that experiences vibrations when transported allows an inner container which defines a chamber holding a substance to move relative to an outer shell under the influence of vibrations. An energy generator such as a magnet and a corresponding coil or a piezoelectric generator that does not move with the inner container is juxtaposed with the inner container to cause an electrical current to be introduced in the inner container when the inner container moves relative to the magnet. The electrical current is dissipated as heat to transfer heat into the substance in the chamber.

  • Publication number: 20160058491
Abstract: A system for suturing and cauterization is provided. A needle assembly and/or suture line emanates heat to cauterize tissue during wound closure. Energy sources for the heat include thermal elements of a variety of configurations energized from electrical, RF or chemical sources disposed internally or external to the needle assembly. Conductive suture lines are provided and some embodiments include a surgical robot. Wound closure is improved and closing time decreased while the potential for bleeding induced by needle tract incisions and suture tension is minimized.

  • Patent number: 9059440
Abstract: Hydrocarbon fuel is sent to a reformer, which produces carbon and hydrogen. The hydrogen is sent to a fuel cell which uses it to generate electricity, and the electricity is used to actuate an electric motor that is coupled to an output shaft of a turbine to impart torque to the shaft. Additionally, hydrocarbon fuel can be provided to the turbine intake directly and/or carbon from the reformer can be mixed with steam from the fuel cell and sent to the turbine intake, in either case to impinge on the turbine blades and impart further torque to the output shaft.

  • Publication number: 20150133907
Abstract: A system and method for inhibiting bleeding during surgical wound closure is provided. As the surgical wound created as part of surgery is closed by a suture and needle, energy is applied to the needle causing bleeding tissue to cauterize thus inhibiting at least some of the bleeding that invariably accompanies surgery. The surgical needle is held by a needle holder or other device and that device holding the needle is connected to an energy source that can be controlled by the surgeon. As energy from the energy source is applied to the needle holder through a conductive line, it is conveyed to the surgical needle through the needle holder and the energy emanating from the needle cauterizes tissue and controls bleeding as the wound is sutured closed. Bleeding from the needle tract created by the puncture of the tissue by the sharp point of the needle and passage of the needle body into the tissue that would otherwise occur as a necessary part of suture is in particular inhibited.

  • Publication number: 20150073217
Abstract: Endoscope sheaths and associated endoscopy data collection and analysis systems and methods are described. In one implementation an endoscope sheath include a body and one or more sensors disposed in the body. The sheath may further include a leak detection apparatus configured to detect leaks in the sheath body. In addition, the sheath may include actuator apparatus, such as a balloon catheter or other surgical instrument. Data from the endoscope and endoscope sheath may be collected, fused and displayed for use in medical procedures and/or analysis.
