Patent number: 10641232Abstract: Approaches for controlling dwell time in the ignition system of an internal combustion engine are provided. In one example, a method may include adjusting dwell based on engine operating conditions and further adjusting dwell in a manner proportional to existent spark plug conditions. By constantly assessing spark plug condition during operating of the internal combustion engine, premature wear of the spark plug may be prevented leading to an extension in the service life of spark plug and other ignition system components.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2017Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Nelson William Morrow, Jr., Robert Humphrey, Oliver Berkemeier

Publication number: 20070224583Abstract: The training aid of this invention is a comprehensive golf practice aid, designed to be used by any golfer, using any club, at indoor or outdoor practice venues, with or without the aid of an instructor, to learn and improve most aspects of the golf swing. The invention comprises an aiming arm that serves as a reference for learning and correcting player position relative to ball and target. The invention uses a plurality of break-beam type sensors to detect club movement. The device gives sensory cues to assist the user in adjusting and perfecting swing tempo. The device also measures club speed between fixed points, and assists the user in adjusting and perfecting swing speed by providing a visual representation of changes in speed from swing to swing. During the swing, the training aid can produce a high intensity ultra short duration burst of ultraviolet (UV) energy, invisible to the naked eye, which is focused on the hitting area. The UV burst can be selectively triggered by any of the break-beams.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2006Publication date: September 27, 2007Inventor: Robert HUMPHREY

Patent number: 4158256Abstract: An arrangement and a method of prosthetically repairing teeth includes preparing a tooth by marking major surfaces thereof with scribe lines, and by removing tooth structure from the tooth in dependence upon the location of the scribe lines. An elongated recess is formed in the prepared tooth. A coping adapted for placement over the prepared tooth fits in the recess and is formed with a bore which extends in direction of the elongation of the recess. An artificial crown or cap adapted for placement over the coping is formed with a cavity which extends in direction of the elongation of the recess. A two-part detachable fastener has one part mounted in the bore of the coping and its other part mounted in the cavity of the cap. The mutual alignment of the bore and the cavity permits the cap to be secured to the coping with little play when the fastener parts are moved into fitting engagement with each other. The detachable fastener may be of snap-type or of magnetic-type.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1977Date of Patent: June 19, 1979Assignees: Lawrence Wiland, Robert HumphreyInventors: Lawrence Wiland, Robert Humphrey, Peter Consiglio
