The reflective display is configured to reflect the chrominance component.

Each of these components is arranged within a housing in a manner such that the elements of each of these components will not move in an unintended manner during use.

Abstract: A meter useful in measuring flow, such as electrical, gas, and water flow, where the meter includes a rotating wheel with markings that rotates in response to the flow sensed by the meter. The meter further includes an illumination source directing light to the surface of the rotating wheel, where a portion of the light is absorbed by the markings, and a portion of the light is reflected by the remaining surface of the rotating wheel. A detector array is included that reads the reflections and converts the readings into a signal. The signal can be analyzed in order to ascertain the rate and amount of flow sensed by the meter.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for creating a display and generating images. Creating the display includes receiving a transmissive display component over an emissive display component and positioning each emissive display pixel with one or more transmissive display pixels creating a display surface capable of displaying color images. Displaying images on the display surface includes decomposing image data associated with the image into separate chrominance signal levels and luminance signal levels, displaying the representation of the chrominance signal levels of the image by driving emissive display pixels in correspondence to the chrominance characteristic of the image, generating the representation of the luminance signal levels for display through the emissive display pixels of the emissive display component and filtering the displayed representation of the luminance signal level using transmissive display pixels in accordance with the luminance characteristics of the image.

A privacy keypad may include a faceplate, a keypad disposed on the faceplate, and at least one protrusion integral with the faceplate. An escutcheon for a door lock may include a housing, a keypad disposed on the housing for unlocking the door lock, and at least one protrusion integral with the housing. The protrusion may obstruct at least partially a line of sight to the keypad. An escutcheon may include top and bottom covers with the top cover projecting outward from the surface of a door more than the lower cover, resulting in an at least partially hidden joint between covers. Top and bottom covers may be interchangeable with covers having similar edges.

Abstract: A vertical door locking system includes a door lock with a deadbolt that moves horizontally, a striker with an upward facing strike opening that vertically receives the deadbolt and a lock controller. The striker includes an electrically operated catch to engage and release the deadbolt. The door lock and striker are mounted opposite each other, one to the vertical door and the other to an adjacent fixed mounting point. The lock controller electrically operates the striker to release the deadbolt and allow it to move vertically out of engagement with the striker for primary access to a secure area and the door lock allows the deadbolt to be retracted horizontally away from the striker for secondary access. A remotely located control system optionally controls the lock controllers of multiple doors and a central office control system is optionally connected to multiple remotely located control systems.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a wireless appliance for monitoring a vehicle. In an embodiment, the appliance includes: (1) a microprocessor; (2) a vehicle-communication circuit; (3) a GPS module; and (4) a wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter receives and transmits location-based data generated by the GPS module and diagnostic data collected by the vehicle-communication circuit. The vehicle-communication circuit is integrated into a single ASIC that includes modules for managing different vehicle-communication protocols, such as, for example, J1850 PWM, J1850 VPWM, ISO 9141-2, CAN, Keyword 2000, and J170S.

Abstract: A pickup truck includes a sidewall having a forward portion and a rearward portion with an elongated opening formed between the forward and rearward portion, and at least one fastening element mounted with respect to the sidewall at which any one of a plurality of differently-configured sidewall modules is mountable. The pickup truck forms a modular base to which any one of a plurality of sidewall modules is attachable to provide or modify the functionality or aesthetics of the pickup truck. Methods are also provided to advantageously employ the pickup truck and sidewall modules to provide flexibility in the assembly and use of pickup trucks.

Abstract: An electronic parking meter system is used with parking enforcement personnel and a plurality of parking meters. The system may include parking meter units associated with a respective parking meter, a data unit for gathering data from the parking meter units, a first communication link for transmitting data between the parking meter units and the data unit, at least one parking enforcement unit associated with the parking enforcement personnel, and a second communication link for transmitting data between the data unit and the parking enforcement unit. The first communication link may be a unidirectional link, allowing the meter units to include a transmitter and be free of a receiver circuit or receiving functionality. In this manner, the meter units may be made relatively inexpensive, thus significantly reducing the overall cost of the system when connected with many meters.

A latch-actuating assembly has a housing, a main lever pivoted on the housing about a main axis between an actuated position and an unactuated position and formed offset from the main axis with an entrainment formation, and a secondary lever pivoted about a secondary axis and having an attachment point offset from both axes and connected to the bowden cable. Thus the secondary lever pivots about the secondary axis relative to the main lever synchronously with the element between locked and unlocked positions.

Abstract: A trilateral gutter guard includes first and second angled legs adapted to rest at different locations on a gutter bottom. A substantially horizontal leg is coupled to the top of the first and second legs, the three legs each comprising a mesh. Preferably, the horizontal leg is positioned and dimensioned to allow self-cleaning of the gutter guard by natural forces.

Abstract: A safety system for a laser-beam utilizing facility incorporates a safety enclosure (24) and an infra-red monitoring system (32) for detecting the development of hot spots at internal surfaces of the enclosure walls (24) and ceiling (26) which may occur as a result of stray laser radiation impinging on such surfaces. The development of a hot spot leads to shutting off the laser source (10) or interruption of the beam by means of a shutter (22).

Abstract: A method of removing a gas from a mixture of the gas and a liquid of greater density than the gas comprising introducing the mixture continuously into a hollow body in the form of a jet of the mixture, impinging the jet of the mixture onto a surface within the chamber, the jet of mixture and the surface being so arranged as to cause the mixture to spread over the surface and to cause the gas to separate from the spreading mixture and rise to a vent at the uppermost part of the hollow body, the liquid then being removed from the hollow body.
